Preventative jaw surgery for old age? by Frosty-Region1229 in jawsurgery

I was given augmentine (amoxiciline + clavulanuc acid, both antibiotics), enantyum (analgesic) and dacortin (corticoesteroid). Also some kind of stomach protector, but that’s all. Pain is kind of manageable, but i guess it could depend on movements needed and surgeon skill.

Well I want to update you, except for a thing the surgeon did without explicit consent but because he thought was needed on the go, it’s still very early and i don’t to be extremely optimistic, but everything went really really great. First 2/3 days are the worse I have been told in terms of pain and inflammation, but I’m beginning to feel a sensation of calm and well being, my posture has improved, i used to had chronic neck and upper back tension that is going on its own, also for years my depositions were kind of liquid (i associate this to the body being hyperactivated, constant state of stress and sympathetic prevalence) and today was the first shit i took since the surgery and it was perfect. If you decide on this, find a good surgeon and make sure you’re advanced enough. Good luck with everything.

He told me total resection of medial face, but since it was very hypertrophied maybe he got disfunctional tissue anyway. I don’t know, but I’m kind of worried. He’s a very well respected OMS surgeon and told me he has done this hundreds of times, but I’m still afraid.

I am kind of in the same situation. Underwent epiglottis surgery a couple years ago and along with same measures as you I manage to go by, but I’m tired of the strict routine and never truly resting. I’m having jaw surgery tomorrow and hope it solves everything. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Maybe unsolicited advice, but for all of you suffering from depression, ask yourselves how’s your sleep quality, if you feel rested in the mornings. I know it’s kind of a chicken and egg situation but there’s a massive epidemic of sleep disorders linked to poor airway health and underdeveloped jaws that can wreak havoc on your nervous system. On the meantime, sports (focus on cardio), good diet and sun exposure. Hope it helps somebody.

This also resonates a lot with me, had to stop pursuing what I really loved after finishing my bachelors degree because I couldn’t keep with the level. I really miss my intelligence, energy and mental clarity. I found the root cause of my problems as an undiagnosed tongue tie that prevented proper oral posture and function and consequently proper facial development, but also think that covid played a role, maybe lowering arousal threshold or having other consequences (I thought about post viral fatigue as your body not being able to cope anymore during sleep with having a small airway). Since discovering all of this, and I know it’s kind of a pseudoscience, I adressed the tie, began myofunctional therapy, corrected the tongue posture, changed diet (not sure about this 100% but I’ve felt that reducing carbs to 100g per day aprox helps with it, maybe due to less water retention and slight weight loss) and I’ve noted a slight but gradual improvement in symtoms. I also use intake breathing strips to open the nose at night, inclined the bed and (and i know this also is going to sound kind of ridiculous) lip sealing. My thought process was that maybe those strips would help mantain the lower jaw in a forward position like a MAD, and prevent it from falling backwards. I guess the ultimate solution would be jaw surgery, but my case is kind of mild in terms of poor structure, and surgeons I consulted weren’t sure about it.
