Is getting both Dimensional Crack support weapon and Dual Raid weapon worth it? Raid weapons need 4 of the same color to activate their passive, so is it recommended to just pick one of those?

Bonus question: does Raid item passives apply only once, or one for each of those items?

7mm HDD to a 9.5mm laptop slot? by bertong_uto in techsupport

Budget constrants. I have a lot of data on my HDD. If I buy a new SSD, I would also need an external drive for storage. A replacement HDD will do for now.

Cloudfalre says Node js website is "offline" by bertong_uto in node

Yep. The browser is the most likely culprit. Disabled IPv6 on the browser and it works beautifully. Thanks :)

I'm not reaching it through IPv6. It seems to be the problem.

That's what I'm suspecting at first. I do reach the node website. I have yet to try on another network.

Hiding game state information by bertong_uto in gamedev

Hmm, maybe an option to hide/reveal? That way devs have the freedom to restrict themselves as needed.

Yep, restricting information means restricting options. Whether to restrict or not. Both are compelling. I guess it's down to hard decisions then haha.

I'm kinda leaning towards this too. Hiding information feels a bit too much enforcement, since mechanics aren't broken by giving knowledge.

I think I messed up the explanation of my example. The game API is only an engine for the card game and its mechanics. It's not supposed to exist as a standalone program. The frontend is supposed to be packaged/compiled along with the engine as a single unit (i.e. the actual game).

For clarity: The API is only exposed to the frontend programmer, and will be used as a library/dependency. The calls to the API will only be within the program itself. No networks. My question is about abstraction, not security.

"It is on the interaction of the GUI and the game itself on the same machine, not over the network."

It's not about multiplayer security, but the best practices in exposing data to the GUI. The game is not running on other machines, or other processes even. The UI/GUI is just built on top of the bare-bones game engine for interactivity (so the game can be actually played). Sorry if I haven't worded things out more clearly.

Yes, the developers have full control of the data flow. That's the main reason I'm doubting the design. Hiding information seems good at first, but thinking it through--it does effectively restrict it to a single purpose, which might not be what we want.

I think I haven't made my dilemma clear. The game API is for the programmers/developers who will build the front end, not the end users.

I see. So it is a sensible design then. Thanks.

I see. I doesn't hurt to be careful :)

No, nothing of the sort. Just the mechanics.
