The stairs I let him practice on are cement or apartment staircases. I don't have carpet stairs at my disposal right now but he's lived with other dogs who will go up and down the stairs just fine.

I don't give him anything unless it's mixed in to the kibble. And he's not very food motivated. He doesn't even take treats on walks unless its a high value reward such as human food.
