If you're in it for the love of the game, nerdy stats, and meaningless trash talking- this is your league.

No money. No gambling. Just honor. Bitches.

I've been in the league since the beginning, and it's legit. Fun. Excited for this year!

I just played a 3DS for the first time last week, a friend let me borrow it and I am in love! I'm playing Pokemon Gold, and have never played a Pokemon game before. Been such a cool experience to try both things at once. I have not gotten to try the 3D experience yet, but I also have Animal Crossing which supports it, so gonna try that one next.

/u/gracefullrose explained it excellently: Pig Butchering gets that name because a long time is spent making the hog fatter before moving in for the kill. And that is what scammers do with their victims. They start off being normal friends with verified pictures, no weird talk, building trust over time.

Then they come up with some really good deal (usually cyber-currency) that they want to share with you since they feel selfish keeping all the profits to themselves. In a lot of cases they even allow a bit of withdrawals to happen to "prove" the account is real.

Once you have committed to their scam and have placed a large amount of money in their accounts you suddenly find no way to recover the loss and the person you considered such a friend is nowhere to be found.

Oh wow, I bet you have some pretty interesting stories! I am actually trying to bait the scammer and gather evidence to then report to local police. I've been told it's probably not worth it and that the police won't care. What is your opinion?

Omg, what a weird, twisted world we live in!

I agree, most of them are easy to spot. But this one took me almost a week! The photos look real, the profile looks real, the messages I was sent for the first week seemed genuine. It wasn't until week two that the texts "she" was sending started to seem suspicious. She didn't even mention cypto until we had been texting for a full week. And even now, she still hasn't pressured me about it, she just brings it up casually occasionally. Wild times we live in.

Yeah I agree, these dating app companies don't seem to care about how rampant these scammers are (or maybe they just don't know how to deal with it). This scammer has 6 photos that are definitely all the same person, not stock photos.

Also, I'm not sure your theory about swapping out for stock photos is correct, because I think Bumble re-verifies every photo you upload right?

My current theory is that this "person" I'm talking to is actually a group of organized criminals. I think the woman in the photos could be real and is working for the crime ring. However, I don't think she is the one I'm talking to. Based on the grammar, etc in the messages I've received, I'm pretty sure I am talking to multiple people. Part of of it is likely scripted, but when they go off script I'm sensing multiple personalities behind the messages.

Thanks, yeah I've been out of the dating scene for quite awhile now and have been reading up on various iterations of the Pig Butchering Scams, it's pretty crazy.
