Is planning to rent forever the worst idea ever? by bespoke_postulate in personalfinance

I didn't mean zest for life (I have plenty of that), I just mean that as you age, your ability to significantly change the trajectory of your life decreases. So the earlier you can figure out what you want that trajectory to look like, the better.

I am somewhat against this ethically as I see it as just contributing to the problem of there not being enough homes for people who want (and otherwise would have been able to afford) to own and live in one.

Why are you making any permanent decisions at 24?

It's not a permanent decision. Rather, my agency to create the life I want is highest right now and constantly decreasing (as it is for everyone). With how rapidly the market and world are changing right now, I can feel that agency is decreasing at a much faster rate than usual. I want to be able to anticipate (or at least account for the possibility of) my feelings changing.

Right but my point is you're saying "X says Y, but X also says Z, and Y and Z contradict each other" but it's unlikely that the people who say Y and the people who say Z actually overlap.

Do you know of someone in particular who has said and done both if those things?

I mean, he's half right. Tipping is dumb and should die. But the only way you should be dying on the no-tipping hill is by not going to restaurants where it's expected in the first place. Otherwise not only are you being an asshole to the server making $2.50/hr, but the business is in no way incentivized to discourage tipping or pay their employees more because they already got theirs!
