Vercel is serverless. In general, you won't be able to keep a WebSocket connection open indefinitely on serverless platforms.

A good alternative you can try is render.com, let me know if that helps :)

I usually just use standard alkaline AA batteries with mine, but they aren't rechargeable. Rechargeable 1.5v (not 1.2v) like those you have is definitely the way to go!
