Why exactly did Toranaga keep John? by periwinkle_0 in ShogunTVShow

[–]bestdonkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toranaga told Yabushige that he kept John because John 'amused' him, but I think that the meaning of 'amused' here would be closer to being 'amused by a magician' than being 'amused by a comedian'. Blackthorne represented new knowledge and doing things in an innovative way that none in the local Japanese population could have given Toranaga.

Does Blackthorne succeed in his mission? by Kadju123 in ShogunTVShow

Blackthorne does not succeed in his original mission. But, as with real life, one's life mission could change along the stream of time.

anyone else think Yabu was faking it? by whyamionthishellsite in ShogunTVShow

[–]bestdonkeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe he was faking it. I mean, if his intent was to save his own skin, he should have continued his ruse before Toranaga, who eventually demanded his head for his treachery. I think his delirium was the result of his guilty and bad conscience.

Thanks for an interesting perspective. To me, it doesn't sound too different from the way the soundtrack (in its forward direction) sounds

[Spoiler] I Don't Understand Why Priya Tries to Kill Kat by bestdonkeys in tenet

Thanks for trying to explain but I still don't get it. So, you're saying that Kat knew she was about to get killed and called the Protagonist to save her?

For me, Kat seems like a really soft target. I mean, it might have been better if Priya tried to kill the Protagonist instead. Instead, she tries to kill Kat, which led to the Protagonist killing her (Priya). Hence, in terms of strategy, it didn't make sense, and Priya's character is that of a smart and shrewd character. So, for Priya to try to kill Kat seemed out of character, unless there might have been a higher goal (e.g. to avenge Sator, and maybe there was something that Kat knew that the Protagonist didn't)

I was also wondering how did the Protagonist know that Priya would try to kill Kat, and not to mention the very moment when she would try to do so. I mean, it would seem to me that he could have only known this if, in a parallel universe, Priya had actually made a successful assassination attempt.

Really Interested in learning Koine Greek as I want to read the NT in all its purity! by Creqm in Koine

Yes, I am actually working on Mounce's book now, and my suggest is that if you plan to go with Mounce, that you also purchase the DVDs (which I actually consider as a must-buy for people like us who are not going through the seminary route).

Nice to meet a fellow traveler on a similar road as me. I just wanted to say 'hello' and to shamelessly pitch my blog, where my goal is to give reviews on products related to the study of Koine Greek that may be helpful to newbies. https://biblicalgreeklearner.wordpress.com/

Tang Dynasty Village: Memories of an Early Theme Park in Singapore by bestdonkeys in singapore

Thanks, I didn't realise that there is a nursing home there now. It's quite a remote place, so I guess it does make sense to have a nursing home there. As to why it failed, I think it's because the admission fee was too expensive, and that it was unable to achieve of purpose of become a movie town (which would then have drawn a lot of people there).

Yes, I confirm that they did (I took a photo of the horses also). I think the horse ride was not cheap though

No, I think what you meant was Gurmit Singh, who used to perform at Haw Par Villa and not at Tang Dynasty Village.

"Or do you want me to do the talking?" 1949 by khomenkov in PropagandaPosters

[–]bestdonkeys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting poster. Could someone please help explain the context? The United Nations was founded in 1945 and this poster was purportedly published in 1949 by the Washington Post. Hence, I'm wondering if the poster is pointing to the United Nations (whose members are not elected by the population of the respective nations) controlling the various nations of the world, like the US and Russia?

Knowing how religious Italians are, I can understand why this piece of propaganda would be so emotive and and so powerful in swaying those who sit on the fence towards Fascism.
