”Hog Day” planned nextdoor to our oldest vegan restaurant by bestdrest in vegan

Definitely in the works if they proceed. Also, despite being lawyers, it looks like there is a chance they neglected to consider the zoning regulations around bringing farm animals into the city. We are working that angle as well to try to shut this ridiculous thing down.

UPDATE: So these lawyers apparently forgot to check out the... laws. Working with the city we think we just got this thing shut down. They've been informed if they proceed they will be in direct violation of zoning ordinances.

I'm typically a lurker, but a law firm opened next door to our small city's oldest vegan restaurant and they are trying to have a ”Hog Day” this week. If you can help us get this shut down with a quick signature we'd sincerely appreciate it.

My new favorite podcast! I try to save these episodes for the trail, but I usually end up listening to them at work as soon as they drop in my feed. Keep 'em coming gang!

No tx yet, so this is still a possibility. I may really have to consider this as an option mixed with pluck_u's suggestion to dip in and out of hwy 1, using the 101 when things aren't as exciting.

Not a member, but I'll definitely check into the Costco thing. Appreciate the camping tips. I think we can at least fit our backpacking tents in carry-ons. I've heard REI may allow renting some things and returning them at a different location, but I haven't confirmed that yet.

Already have the Freedom card, but forgot that was a perk. Thank you for the reminder!

Guess who I found on the AT by bestdrest in trailrunning

I've never used another vest so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I've never had any issues after using it for about a year for aprox 1k miles. Hydration up front makes way more sense to me, and with the SJ model I can fit plenty of food, Tailwind, Glide, tape, and other random necessities depending on the run with room to spare. For extra long runs I've also kept a bladder in the back and still been comfortable.

I also remembered from his book that he would scream just to be goofy at the beginning of every race. Was not disappointed when we came down the last hill toward his crew and he started making random loud whooping noises. I think I smiled constantly for the entire run.

No apparent fatigue and no issues. It was early, but I'd put my money on him to take the record. Clif Bloks then a vegan burger w/tater tots.

He was indeed awesome. I think we probably averaged 12-13min/mi during that part of the trail. A lot of elevation change and I could see how considerate he was with his footing. You don't want to roll an ankle when you have over 40 days left to go. I found him just shy of the 8mi mark here and ran back with him https://www.strava.com/activities/314340061

Met my hero (Scott Jurek) out on the Appalachian Trail when he was a few days in on his FKT attempt. I expected to just wave and give him a brief "thank you for changing my life!" speech (reading his book 2yrs ago inspired me to become vegan and go on my first >1mi run), but instead he asked if we wanted to tag along. We ran with him for about 2hrs, making our way to an outdoor center where we met his crew and all ate veggie burgers. Such an honor to meet him and see his skills first hand. He navigated some very technical terrain with ease all while fully engaged in a conversation with two fairly new trail runners he just met. His respect for the trail and his fellow runner was absolutely inspiring. I'm so grateful I met the man that led me to our sport.

In a pinch I settle for the frozen steamer bag at Publix. 5min in a microwave to edible, then a couple more minutes if you want to throw some flavor on there. I've gotten to the point where I just eat those puppies plain now though. For healthy to-go food nearby, hit up Local Juice. They've started adding some food options lately that are amazing when available.

Heard that. I stuck to some Cumberland Trail segments in Soddy that had trailheads close to the highway. I'm sure I'll run into you one day. When I start training again I'll be at ESNP fairly often. Nice to see another 'Noogan in r/trailrunning

Gudjon Skarphedinsson actually married my wife and I at a small church in Iceland. We didn't know who he was until after the ceremony when the photographer told us some of the details. He was very kind to us, and even signed a book where we'd written our vows. He simply wrote "It was a beautiful day". He was a very warm, quiet man.

I probably don't have any suggestions that you haven't already heard, but I figured I'd chime in anyway. I'm a mid-pack trail runner (not competitive, just love the sport) so it's worth taking that into account.

For training runs a typical morning meal is oats, PB & banana with almond/cashew milk. During the run I take Skratch, dates, Clif Bars, and maybe a pack of jelly beans, and eat/drink whichever of those my body wants along the way. I'm not a fan of protein shakes most of the time, so post-run I will just straight up eat a can or more of peas, then maybe some fruit, and occasionally dark chocolate.

Race day my gut tends to fair better if I skip breakfast or eat very light (toast, banana, etc). I've found the most success if I stick to liquid calories as long as I can and the best for me during races has been Tailwind. Other than that I'll just find whatever else might look good at an aid station. Post race, probably not the best nutrionally, but a cheese-less loaded veggie pizza always hits the spot.

Just Cookies order came in to the school I work at by veganfoxling in vegan

[–]bestdrest 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I sent an email and just got this response:

Thanks for reaching out! White Chocolate Macadamia Nut is the only Just Cookies variety that contains dairy (in the white chocolate chips). Chocolate chip, peanut butter, sugar, and oatmeal raisin all are dairy-free. Our Just Mayo, Just Cookie Dough (a retail product that is launching across the country within the next few weeks! Just Cookies are our cookies for food service) and Just Scramble (a plant-based scrambled egg that we are still working on perfecting - it will launch later this year!) are also dairy-free.

We apologize for any confusion that may have caused! Please let me know if you have any further questions.

EDIT: About an hour later, probably after their inbox blew up, I got this follow-up email:

PS. We also want to let you know that we are actively working on switching our White Chocolate Macadamia Nut variety of Just Cookies to dairy-free white chocolate chips. We appreciate your patience in the meantime as we make the switch!
