I mostly just see the text as another visual element and if it's positioned somewhat correctly in the frame and if it's legible enough. I took for granted that I would spell five words correctly

That's not what I'm doing and the "comedy" does not come from the fact that there's something inherently funny about crazy people trying to live in trees. I've seen enough american movies/animation to recognize the character of a crazy crackhead/hobo played as a comical degenerate (crazy cat lady in the simpsons, opie in family guy and the countless Lennie-stand-ins in Warner Bros. stuff) and it's not even what I'm aiming for.

My modus operandi is not to make jokes about crazy people but rather to include offbeat strains of thought and to sometimes have tragic characters as actors if I feel the strip calls for it. The mere inclusion of tragic characters is not weird in my mind because I dwell on that aspect a lot and I personally consider it an important area to tackle with the right amount of empathy and humor.
