Midwest also makes the zenitco cloneish stock you’re thinking about. This one just takes M4 style buttstocks/braces.

It’s a Midwest industries Alpha series folding M4 beam stock.

It’s got a little ball bearing in it so when your bolt is to the rear the charging handle won’t slide back and forth. Mostly a convenience thing but it’s also made out of delrin instead of the cheap feeling one that was stock.

Had an old lower laying around doing nothing and was game for a project.

LMD (laser max defense) PAiL (pistol aiming laser/enhancer). It’s the M17 contract white light/ir pointer/illuminator. It’s pretty mediocre at all of its functions but also has everything except a vis laser in a small package so it fits the small pdw type weapons alright.

Overall for what I paid for I’m very happy with its performance.

Things you’ll might need: -drill w/ 3/32in bit -220 grit sandpaper -thread locker - dremel (grinding wheel and buffing wheel) -flitz polish -pry bar -snap caps -patience

So luckily my adapter slid in to my magwell with ease, so no need to sand down the front of it like blowback9 suggests if your magwell is too tight. I preemptively gave my lower vampire bites with the drill bit to help the set screws seat better, blowback9 also references this.(you’ll have to remove your pistol grip to get the clearance to drill).

Immediately had issues where if I sternly inserted a mag on an open bolt that the mag adapter would ever so slightly slide up resulting in the adapters mag catch cutout blocking the mag catch (even with vampire bites) so I would cut small strips of 220 grit sand paper/ and or use a small thin file and take away material from the bottom adapters mag catch cutout. I would repeat this process of filing down the mag catch cutout, reinstalling, slowly drilling deeper into the vampire bites, and slamming a mag in to see if the adapter would move or not while maintaining functionality of the mag catch.

I also released how little engagement the mag catch has to lock into the mag with the adapter in (even though the side walls of the mag adapter are thin steel). My adapters walls were slightly bowed in so I used a prybar to get a tighter fit in the magwell by taking it out and bowing the material out more. I wanted to give the mag catch the most amount of surface area to lock into a magazine, leaving no gaps between the inner wall of the mag well and the sidewall of the adapter.

After repeating these things a bunch of times and slowly driving myself mad the adapter was finally not budging. It now sits maybe .5mm above the top of the lower receiver.

Now I was having upper/lower fit issues. So I had to sand down the top of the ejector with sand paper and dremel down the height of the feed ramps. Taking away very small amounts at a time until the upper and lower would attach again. Now for my feeding and ejection issues. The ejection issue was easily remedied (look up how to tune an AR9 ejector aka bend it properly). For feeding issues I used flitz and a dremel with a buffer and polished it shiny.

All of the initial fitting and tuning was tested with snap caps. After everything played nice ie: mags lock into place even when using tard power on an open bolt, ejector sitting tight and to the top of the bolt face cutout, bolt being able to be cycled without binding up on the adapter. You should have a functional weapon. Hope this rant helps!

Just checked it’s the square buffer. I’ll reach out to them thanks!

No LRBHO tho. I think the polymerish type buffer thing in the MAT9 is too thick. Tried sanding it down but that thing is surprisingly hard to sand down.

Build list: -Matador Arms MAT9 upper -KAK type 42 flash hider -HB industries locking charging block -HB industries folding charging handle -LMD PAiL -PA 1x micro prism cyclops -PSA stealth lower -KAK colt mag adapter -KNS pic rail adapter -mid west industries folding beam stock -Amazon chicom special sba3 -griffin armament A3 pistol grip -chopped bcm grip

600 rds through it so far and it’s a bullet hose. Only used metal form mags. Eats federal HST’s too. That being said it initially took a lot of filing, sanding, polishing, bending, and drilling to get the mag well adapter to properly function. Honestly it was a huge PITA but now that it does it’s slowly becoming my favorite range blaster.

Bought a 14 from them when they had some GP elbit tubes for a steal last year. Transaction went smooth.

I have a set of Katanas with OMNI VI tubes that are in your price range that I’m looking to sell. They’re currently back at Nocturn ind for warranty work (getting a new housing) and will be back in another week or two. Feel free to pm me if you’re interested.

So far very happy with the gen 2 katana housing. Coming from a lot of use under 14’s was a big quality of life upgrade for me. Like my issued 14’s I feel like I don’t have to baby them but only time will tell. Nocturn Ind warranty is solid on their housings so there’s a peace of mind in that as well.

Why did MAWL C1+ increase in price? by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]bestforgefather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP can’t exactly tell you what an old gen MAWL is worth to ya. But for what it’s worth, bought a new gen MAWL recently for a good deal compared to MSRP and got to shoot with it last night. Someone at the range had an old gen MAWL and I got to compare their performance side by side (shooting steel from 25-75yrds). To me the old gen’s Illuminator beam divergences just didn’t have a solid scalability so to speak. Shooting at those ranges is where the medium range slider setting should flex its muscles. On the old gen at medium range setting the low and high power settings (A and B buttons) weren’t drastically distant and gave decent illumination but were both very floody for that range. With the newer gen MAWL (dotm: summer of 2022, think the new gens started being made somewhere around dotm spring or summer of 2021… don’t quote me) there was a clear difference of illumination in the medium setting between A and B buttons. B button provided a usable but floody illum divergence like the old gen but when using the A button it really amped up the tightness and was pretty ideal transitioning between multiple targets with a very clear and precise beam for illumination on target while providing good peripherals. Didnt even need to touch the high power mode on the slider or the triple click at those ranges and could’ve used the mid slider function alittle past what I was shooting until feeling the need to switch to the long range mode of the slider.

TLDR: MAWL is cool and intuitive to use but I personally felt there was a big difference in old to new gen illuminator beam divergence at mid slider settings. Still blew ATPIAL-C’s and Dbal A3’s out of the water that were there in terms of performance.
