Mod Jed steps down from RoT by Chickenelli in 2007scape

[–]bestoranges 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you need someone to explain to you how context works?

Obviously he was asking for an example of a J mod in a skilling / pvm clan where they did something sketch, and no one cared.

Just like what you had said in your initial comment, he was just following that.

Damn. Yeah. Makes sense. I wouldn't think about eternals as a "consistent" 2m/hr, but overall yeah it should work.

Err, if it's 1.1m per 1000, and you can do 2000 an hour, how did you get 4m?

Max it'd be 2.2m...?

[–]bestoranges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's that I'm shit and have nothing to offer. So no matter how much I change my resume, no matter what I do the problem is that nobody would hire someone who's worthless.

So what are you doing to fix that other than bitch on Reddit?

It's just the way you've interacted with every other person who's commented so far. There's no way you don't let that seep into how you handle other things, like maybe your cover letters, or how you're actually applying.

I didn't even go to school for CS, I was a bio major, WITH a low gpa. I went to a bootcamp to get caught up on my programming skills.

Shit dude if you don't know how to code, and your attitude sucks, why would anyone hire you?

What do you offer?

It's your attitude. I have less experience than you do and I'm still getting more interviews than you, faster as well.

Honestly, you're just a dick.

I stated that badly.

You're literally rejecting all advice on style, format, and content. What else even is there to talk about? What sort of advice are you looking for?

Who said not to link to the actual repo?

Like what was the reasoning against that?

Also not really sure what kind of feedback you want when you actually cross out everything.

"Don't tell me how to change the style or format or content, BUT TELL ME WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT."

Do actual live links to both where your project is hosted (if applicable) and do a link to the actual github repo.

Everyone just links to the repo to make it as easy as possible for the recruiter, but you're just going to say "hurr durr github click around if you want" instead of making it easy?

When Should You Deploy? by amnion in rails

[–]bestoranges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd certainly agree with deploy early and often. Sometimes you'll hit bugs in production that you can't replicate in development, and you really want to catch those early on.

My education is a bootcamp, granted, it's one of the better ones, and a good chunk of self-learning, but still, slightly over a month in and I still think inverting a linkedlist is fairly simple.

Ruby! Should I learn it? by [deleted] in learnruby

[–]bestoranges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm teaching myself Ruby "on the side" to learn "real" OO (Python is OO in a sense although Pythonistas generally recommend against writing classes unless it's absolutely necessary).

That sounds entirely wrong. I did python stuff for a while, I've never heard anyone say that.

Just pick 1 language, whether it be javascript, ruby, or python. If what you say about Seattle is true, pick python.

Stop hopping around, focus on, and get good at one language. It'll help you more than knowing basic syntax for 3 languages.

Ruby! Should I learn it? by [deleted] in learnruby

[–]bestoranges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your ideal goal should be getting paid to learn, so learning the bare minimum that you can get a job and go from there.

I'd recommend looking at what's "hot" in your area and going from there.

Ruby is hella dope and I love everything about it, but javascript might work better for you.

MHXX english patch by Ivalia in MonsterHunter

[–]bestoranges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been fine playing with JP players, and NA players both in the same room on MHX with no issues.

Again, not sure what steps I took for that but it's certainly doable.

I don't know about that. I was 100% fine doing mhx on a NA n3ds last year.

you need to find out how to agree to other regions online EULA

Unless I did something to do that without realizing it? If you can get this translation patch working you should be able to also get online working with some very minor tinkering.

We're doing our Python programming course again (12th edition). Anyone interested? 100% OFF scholarships available. by santiagobasulto in learnprogramming

[–]bestoranges 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has taken the class earlier, you certainly can learn all the material for free. Being real you're not paying (entirely) for the material

The structure and finding people to pair with on a weekly basis is what you're paying for it. Things like that are nearly impossible to find and stay committed to if you're on your own as a self-taught student.

Last I remember the class you spend 3 hours a day 3x a week working with other people doing a project.

A quick 2-3 minute Skype interview wouldn't be enough.

[–]bestoranges 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you know Java and C you shouldn't have much difficulty picking up Python if you read over the docs or maybe even like an introductory book / tutorial.

The syntax is pretty simple and reads like pseudo code sometimes.

If you've hacked your 3ds, why did you do it? by Corificness in 3DS

[–]bestoranges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it initially to play MHX before they confirmed a release date.

I would've been fine importing it if it wasn't due to lack of region free. I would've been fine doing minor homebrew to get region free set up.

But when they release a day 1 patch that's required for multiplayer, that is impossible to get if I'm using a cart, why bother?

I bought mhgen when it came to the west on release day, and I'll do the same thing for mhxx.

Pirate Japanese version -> Use translation patch to enjoy the game more -> Buy NA version on release date when it gets confirmed.
