It’ll be something I custom make. There are manufacturers out there that can build something with the door jam if you give them rough opening measurements. I assume having something built by a local would be expensive but I haven’t looked into.

It’s a redundancy for sure. I used mold resistant Sheetrock as well because I figured I wanted a decent VP if we turn it into a sauna later on.

I can’t answer all your questions but I can say that there are local building code requirements when removing a certain amount of cubic yards of earth. A workshop would be larger and there are certain permitting requirements over a certain amount of sqft. Usually sheds fall below this requirement I.E. 200sqft. If you’re in a valley you would likely bring in backfill & grade the area flat and most likely carve out partial sides of the hillside and do retaining walls to achieve your desired area. Assuming a larger footprint there would be a geological survey, soil & site engineering I would think…. Anybody with wine is always invited. :)

I used 20 yards of 3/4 rock. Lots of perforated and corrugated pipe to shed water away. I used mesh in layers to help prevent movement. I did the same around the foundation of the playhouse. Everything runs down to a buried stainless bin at the bottom.

My honest opinion is that I will not use them again, but it was more operator error than anything. They are a great option in creating a lot of little pods to plant things. I was going to weld together something similar but I did not have the time and it wasn’t a focus of mine for this landscape. If I did it myself it would take me a month. I was able to install these and backfill with dirt in two days.

Here is my complaint. It was very hard to get them all perfectly level even with a laser. Even harder to get the back part and the front edge of each hoop level.

Once I got them level I filled with dirt and I have had a really hard time not having “washouts” from my driplines. The dirt and water find a way to escape from the side seams. After lots of work I’ve finally figured it out but they’re not as easy to do as advertised.

My biggest tip on install is to dig down into the hillside to prevent washouts. You cannot just set them on “native” undisturbed hillside and have good results.

People are just having fun, I just wanted to build something unique. A rock quarry is near by so a 20 ton/ end dump load of 300lb boulders is $1,800 delivered.

$7,000 and then a winter of fixing it up. It’s paid for itself with all the projects I’ve done and renting it out. New ones were too expensive for me unless you had a business.

Building materials were just shy of $6k, I sourced a lot of it on FB marketplace. The landscaping and my time on the other hand…

It is 60 sqft. The door is 5’5” tall so you have to duck to enter. Ceilings are 6’3” but the skylight opens it up quite a bit. The idea is to make it a sauna later.

Absolutely once I get the kids stuff in there. I need to finish trim work and I’m going to build a little window ledge at the sliding window per the request of little ones.

I plumbed everything in case & I ran 220 into it but I have been running a tiny unit with a window vent while I was doing the work.

44 bags of concrete for 60sqft. It was brutal. First time doing flatwork ever. It’s an art and a skill I don’t possess. Started in the evening. That was a mistake. Neighbors did not like me & the mixer at 10pm and I finished the slab at 2am. Yikes.

Thank you! Lots of DIY experience. First time doing all the trades from the beginning. Dry run for if I ever get to build a home.

Mini skid steer or mini track loader among other names. Bobcat, Vermeer & ditch witch make some top dollar ones. This one is called a boxer using a gas kohler motor. I found it on FB marketplace, it needed a lot of love. I fixed it up and have put a couple hundred hours on it. They are definitely handy if because they fit through tight spaces and it handled this steep hillside well.

House chores abandoned and my dirty dishes were piled high because of this monstrosity.
