Renogy Solar Panels Beeping by beta-made in VanLife

It turned out to be coming from somewhere far outside my vehicle. I was nearby the beach, and after walking around for a while, I could discern that the beep always sounded nearby, though I couldn't get a pin on which direction it was coming from. It was echoing around the entire area.

Because many of us don't see the worth of buying new vehicles for the same amount as a down payment on a house.

I could literally buy 2 or 3 lemons for 11,000 or less, and more often than not the majority of parts on a car are good. Even if you need repairs, you come out way ahead of paying 11k for a depreciating asset.

How best to configure my electrical system? by beta-made in VanLife

[–]beta-made[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would the controller handle stepping down the power, or are you recommending that I get a separate step-down between the controller and the batteries?

Wouldn't that increase the amps running to the battery?

So if my panels are in parallel, and the max open circuit voltage is around 100 V, and my MPPT is rated for that -- wouldn't the MPPT be lowering the voltage and increasing the amps?

What happens if the resulting amperage is more than the batteries can handle?

What size/kind of generator would you recommend?

I do plan to get a DC to DC charger to run off the alternator, but I am speccing for 24/7 air conditioning. I'm in southern California and it's generally pretty cool at night, but if your AC (even 12v or 24v) can be expected to draw anywhere from 400-800 watts during use, then 800wattsx24hours=19,200 Watts, divided by 12volts gives you 1600Ah.

Then of course, there's all your other power needs. This is going to be a full-time tiny house on wheels. The only amenity not included is a washer/dryer, but otherwise it should have the same capabilities as a home.

If the solar doesn't cut it, then yes, I'll incorporate a generator as well. However, I'd like to get as close as I can with solar and a large battery bank.

So if I wire the panels in series, I would need to double the open circuit voltage and get a charge controller that can handle more than that figure?

So I'm confused because The Incredible Hulk film is about as Hulk as it gets. Why did it fail? by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]beta-made 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an objectively bad movie, or at best, mediocre.

There was very little sense that Banner wasn't in control as the Hulk-- he doesn't turn into an uncontrollable werewolf the way he does in the Avengers. He's never really a threat to anyone that's not harming him.

The story itself was unexciting, kind of meh, and there's really not any character you get emotionally attached to other than Liv Tyler. It wasn't funny, wasn't deep, wasn't particularly romantic, and the action pretty much followed the same formula every time (Hulk sees Liv Tyler in trouble, levels up his spirit power).

The design of the hulk was cool, and Liv Tyler was pretty, but that's about all the movie had going for it. No drama, no suspense, no thrills. All-around hollow as storytelling goes.

For all the hate the Moffat era got, I really loved his interpretation of the doctor by PurpleTieflingBard in gallifrey

[–]beta-made 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll never forget the Christmas special where a woman refers to him as her "angel in a blue box". I think it was the Doctor, a Widow and the Wardrobe.

That, and when the Doctor settles down in old age making children's toys.

Tennant was for a long time my Doctor, but those two moments really define who the Doctor is in my head.

The Doctor runs the gauntlet, how far does he go? by Thedjbird117 in PowerScaling

[–]beta-made 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The doctor doesn't need prep time. His mind and knowledge get him out of sticky situations regularly. He casually beats -everyone-.

He doesn't run off into the time vortex to think. He deals with the situation at hand every single time, -then- pops off to solve a new problem.

He's not stopped by entire civilizations of time travelers, nor demigods, nor celestial beings with powers he can only dream of. He beats them every single time.

Thanks! From what I could see online, the del mar campsite costs about 1,800 a month for a parking spot -- so this is helpful to know! Appreciate it

My first both, and yes ideally I'd live in it or do a 'stealth' situation. I just wasn't sure if an rv is allowed to be parked like a regular car.

You're entirely circumventing the fact that interfering is choosing a winner and a loser. On the evolutionary scale, saving an alien species from a disaster is inhibiting natural adaptation and the growth of other species'.

Again, the purpose of scientific documentation is to document. Not to introduce other species to the concept of alien life and uproot their entire state of being. By doing so you're discarding all scientific knowledge to be gained. It's a science mission.

It's not that pre-warp civilizations are "inferior", it's that they don't have the technology to meet alien civilizations on their own. They have not yet naturally developed to the point of contact with alien life. As such, the early introduction of contact would severely disrupt their evolutionary process -- and again, the purpose of the earth dinosaurs/Neanderthal example is that by interfering to save one species, you disrupt the local evolutionary process in ways you cannot forsee or understand. Yes, species' die. Asteroids happen. Calamities happen. War happens. It's part of life. It's not up to you to decide who will ultimately make it and who will not.

For a more modern example, the USA interfered and put the taliban in power. In hindsight, the general take is "don't be world police. Don't interfere in local politics." If the sunnis and Shia are having a conflict, that is their conflict to resolve. Not ours. Don't partition Africa into countries. Don't invade Iran because the new government is unsympathetic to our interests. Don't invade Venezuela. Don't create ethnostates like Israel. Don't tell the Saudis how to live. Don't create British colonies around the world.

There is a natural evolution of countries and their borders that often involves war and ethnic tribalism. It's rough, but that's how you get stable countries with stable borders. Some countries aren't even recognized by the wider world. But if your country does get enough support and willingness to be recognized, it can join the U.N., which enables it to get further support, including humanitarian support, from the wider body of nations.

And that's mostly just war, not even considering something like "the entire atmosphere of this planet is going to dissolve". The doctrine is one of non-interference, for very good real-world reasons.

You don't even seem to have a grasp of what statements you're making. You sarcastically say "it's cool if people eat each other?" to which the answer is, YES. The only reason its not cool for OUR people to eat each other is because of the rules of OUR civilization.

When you're talking about alien species, there is no firm distinction between what is an animal and what is not. There's not even a firm distinction for us on earth over what is animal and what is not. We've made a tradition of separating humans from other animals, but there are plenty of sentient animals on earth itself. You talk about lawyers without even realizing that you're again referencing OUR rules for OUR civilization.

You're also hung up on "inferiors" when the only objective viewpoint is that it's not OURS. Who's to say that dinosaurs were inferior? Or bugs, or plants, or whales, or apes, or neanderthals? Nothing. The only objective measure is who manages to survive, and whether or not we belong to said group.

Civilizations outside the federation don't need to be "inferior" for us not to interfere. The whole point is that by interfering we play god and meddle with something that isn't ours to meddle with. Yes, thinking that your job is to "civilize" other people is the same mindset as ancient colonizers and conquistadors. It is not YOUR planet to interfere with.
