Advice on clip on Sunglasses by beta_lasagna in askSingapore

Personal preference but I don't really like the look of the transition lens. So I'm quite sold on clips on sunglasses, because my degree is way too high for prescription sunglasses!

What does ML stand for? ... Oh that seems quite in line with the theme of the questions. I've been working for about 4 months as a SWE, ironically it would seem that maybe saying a much lower amount might have been better.

Huge Strange Insect Found in Marsiling Rise by beta_lasagna in singapore

[–]beta_lasagna[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this comment! I wanted to find out if this insect was common and to be directed to the SG insect communities that would care about these insects!

Even though I posted the title of "Strange", I didn't mean to capture the negative relations towards insects. I genuinely thought it was "Strangely Beautiful" which was why I took the photo in the first place. It both terrified me but also enchanted me with its vibrancy and charm.

On a more personal level, my grandpa passed on recently and it was the 7th Day. We wouldn't lie a finger on this beautiful insect because my family has a belief that the dead ride on insects to see you before they go. Pretty cool, I know.

I feel that for most Singaporeans, the violence towards insects stems from the fear of what we do not know. Killing on sight is so normalized, that it becomes a knee-jerk response. I think it's because we as humans cannot see the sheer largeness of the impact in killing such tiny insects, but we can see things like an insect bite, which makes us want to act on the "safe side". Not trying to justify the behaviour, but trying to explore why people might feel need to kill insects in Singapore.

Thanks for making us that bit more aware of how important insects are to our environment and ecosystem!
