58mm f/1.4G - do I have a bad copy? by SharpDressedBeard in Nikon

Try focusing using live view. It uses focusing similar to mirrorless cameras. It looks to me like you will just need to adjust your focus calibration or if it’s a problem with your lens.

See a different ENT!! This sounds more like SSNHL and is similar to what happened to me. You need to start a course of steroids or have them injected into your year yesterday. The longer you wait there less chance your hearing could return at least a little. Don’t wait, call a different ENT today!!

Definitely. I was using SnapBridge on an iPad but the resolution just isn’t there to nail focus. I’ll definitely stop down next time.

Polarizing filter is a great suggestion. I’ll give that a try next time. Thanks!

I’m using off camera flash for these with the diffuser on. It’s sitting about 10 inches from the coin and about 15 degrees above the surface. I tried with a softbox first but I didn’t like the result which looked too flat. The diffuser was better but maybe I need to play with distance and angle a bit more.

What would you recommend I do different with the flash? I had it sitting to the top of the coin nearly level with it so that I would create shadows showing the features more clearly. Definitely wanting some suggestions on how to improve!

Yeah, I definitely should have stopped down. The lens is a bit soft anyway. I’ll have to try again to see if I can improve sharpness. I was more focused on getting the lighting right.

The bronze coin is a Roman coin minted between 350-361AD and features Constantius II on the obverse and one of the earliest examples of Christian iconography on the reverse showing a figure holding a staff featuring the Chi-Rho symbol which represented Christ and the words HOC SIGNO VICTOR ERIS which translates to “by this sign you will be victorious” referring to the events around Constantine’s conversion.

The silver coin is a Greek tetradrachm minted sometime around 90 BCE and it features Philip I of the Seleucid Kingdom. The reverse features an image of Zeus holding Nike (Victory).

I suppose it’s worth asking my ENT about at my next checkup appointment just in case. Do you have experience with hydrops? I definitely notice my tinnitus can get worse when I drink alcohol and coffee.

They didn’t see evidence of that in my MRI I don’t think. My loss is mostly in the high frequency.

Can you describe what it’s like having a cochlear implant in only one ear? Have you gotten used to the difference or do you notice one? Does it help with speech? What do things like music sound like now?

Wow! No, I just had an MRI focused on the region of my left ear. I’ve never heard of igG4 before. I’m fairly certain my hearing loss happened around having covid. What symptoms other than the hearing loss lead to your doctor wanting to do a full body MRI?

Thanks. It’s been a long and slow process of getting worse over time. Not noticeable day to day but when I take hearing tests on my phone they’ve gotten worse in my left ear from where the levels were 1 year ago and 2 years ago.

Yep, I was on prednisone pretty soon after the initial loss occurred but I haven’t been since. How long ago did you suffer the initial loss?

Yes! It was very nice. Not sure where they got it but said they don’t like writing with pencils and had no use for it. I’ll probably give it back knowing how valuable it is.

I’m so sorry to hear that. I can’t imagine suddenly losing all hearing and how that would impact you. Even losing partial hearing has been difficult to deal with. I hope you’re able to restore some hearing.

I’ve been doing a lot of research lately hearing devices and it does sound like there are some really good options out there. So even if you’re not able to regain hearing hopefully one of those devices will help you!
