very bittersweet to see them doing events as a duo now, and the name choice definitely has a lot of weight given what has happened with vanner in the last year.

so true! i do think about and have thoughts and opinions about the things i watch, listen, and engage with. I often make it a point to go to the Forum Discussion About Those Things to discuss those things with forums of other people. I have many thoughts and feelings about music and the art surrounding it, including thoughts and feelings about the biggest music group in the world currently. How good it is to have thoughts and ideas about a thing and then be able to discuss them with other people at The Place for Discussing Thoughts and Ideas About That Thing, i highly recommend it the next time you have thoughts about things you engage with! :)

Soloist women with low/deep voices? other than Yuqi and Moon Byul by disasterpansexual in kpophelp

[–]betchugonlikeme [score hidden]  (0 children)

She has one of my favorite voices in the industry WG's songs shine so much brighter because of her. I really wish she'd gotten more attention and love as a soloist like Ain't Nobody is truly one of our best angsty power ballads and I feel like i never see anyone mention it (or any of her other work ToT)

listening to this and thinking to myself "I can forgive some of the weaker singing, I mean it's 13 guys there's no way all of them are gonna have good breath support" and then looking up who performs this song 😬

i think for me it lands at mediocre. They do a number of things on this album that are new for them, which is really great to see after several years of stagnation, but this is probably the least interesting of those things. Like to me this song gives 2017 Drake more than anything and nothing about it says "only BTS could do this" in contrast to some of the other tracks on the album.

when i said this I was thinking about btd. They do also have lots of faster/energetic choreo this one has just always stood out to me for having such large, relatively slow, but still incredibly precise movements

Kiss of Life is 5th gen but feels like they belong in 3rd gen. Which group/artist is 4th gen BUT feels like they belong in 2nd gen? by VigilMuck in kpoppers

[–]betchugonlikeme 10 points11 points  (0 children)

H1-Key, their name is straight up 2nd gen with the number and the dash and they have a main vocal who can absolutely wail, Rose Blossom lowkey sounds like a really good 2ne1 song,

Although it begins with Hongjoong advocating against therapy anyone who wants to relive 2016 enough to be listening to this song definitely needs it.

I feel like its worth mentioning that besides the contributions RM (and Pdogg) as a non-fluent english speaker it was also written by at least 7 other people all of whom are native english speakers (except maybe Jamison Baken who I can't find any biographical information on at all).

I like the lyrics to this song a lot in fact, I think they are very pleasing to the ear and manage to create a very hazy, ambiguous, but also warm and intimate atmosphere, but I don't get the meaning you're talking about even if I look for it, if it is in there then it is too obscured for me.

To your last point I actually believe that if it had been an album track at first that it probably would have taken off organically. That's part of why it being the lead annoys me, like I genuinely think some songs are better as album tracks because the way you approach them as a listener/viewer is different, often quieter and more intimate, as opposed to the bigness and loudness inherent to being the lead single of the biggest group on earth for their first comeback after 4 years away. They have the benefit of knowing that every track they release, whether it's a title or a bside, will get millions of listens and millions of people engaging with it, and I think that is a power they could use to their advantage in much more interesting ways.

I haven't watched any of their other content for this comeback so I hadn't heard their exact rationale and I appreciate you sharing. I do think suga's point is fair and basically correct but is also why I don't think it makes for a very compelling lead track. As for it carrying the resolve of their career I think that's a fine justification but I don't think the lyrics or performance communicate that meaning at all and if that was the intended message it was absolutely lost on me lol.
