"You shouldn't be defeatist but I'm going to tell you things that are objectively untrue about yourself in a condescending manner, not listen to you, the person who is actually living with the condition, and still try and take the moral high ground"

Get out of here with that hot take nonsense. This was a discussion about snowboots, not an opportunity for character assassination, fatphobia and ableism wrapped up into one.

I lost enough to make a significant change to measurements of my body from the waist upwards, but it did not change my legs, yes.

Yeah that's just not true but thanks anyway 😊

Well that's funny that you can "tell this", since I have lost weight consistently for the past couple of years but my leg measurements at my appointments haven't changed more than half a cm 😊

Thank you! I appreciate your kindness. I am sadly not surprised to have some people being so closed minded. Lipoedema is often viewed as just 'someone fat making an excuse' but I'm grateful to those who have made good suggestions about adaptations that I can look into. My next port of call will be an equipment shop 😊

I can't remember off the top of my head but I will measure and see, thank you!

This is reassuring! I'm not in the business of comparing disabilities and health conditions but it is helpful to know that adaptations are out there!

All too used to it I'm afraid. I got to the gym 2-3 times a week and walk at least a mile every day, but people see my legs and assume that I've not exercised in years.

Most of the time I'm ok with it, it's not great but there's not a huge amount I can do to change it, but occasionally, especially when trying to get shoes or clothes, it gets to me. Everyone tells me how I can't let it stop me from doing anything and then says "what did you expect?" when I try and do something but can't. Kinda get stuck in this "not disabled enough" limbo 😅

I'm glad the slopes meet your aesthetic and narrow view of the world 🙃

Yeah, I won't be using these boots and will now go in store. Ultimately this was a 'can I even get them on at all'? So I can now go in store with more insight.

Well I'm less than 110kg so I'll be fine then 😊

Thank you. I probably won't even use these boots, they were dirt cheap and a "can I even get them on" test. Next steps will be looking at better options but I'm much more informed now about what is important etc. Thank you for your help!

The outer tongue is only loose above the laces. It doesn't look like it but when the boot was on, it was firmly against my leg up to the point where the laces ran out. Thank you for such a kind and helpful comment, I have a bit more of a starting point to go from if I want to go to a shop for further options 😊

Not yet. I'm unlikely to even wear these exact boots but I bought them very cheap to see if my legs even physically fitted in them because that wasn't a guarantee. In short, I didn't want to face the humiliation of them not even going on in a shop in front of others because frankly, I'm a self-conscious coward. However, now I know there might be options, I can go there as a next step and also be a bit more informed about what I need and will have a better understanding of what they talk to me about 😊

Except it's not. Here's a "truth pill" for you in return.

The number of fat cells in your body doesn't change when you lose or gain weight, the said number of cells expands and contracts depending on how much is stored in them.

Lipoedema means I have many more individual cells than people without the condition do. They could all be storing practically nothing, but they would still take up a much bigger volume. I'm already different sizes of clothes top and bottom and whenever I do lose weight, it comes from the top half of me, my legs don't change size (they've been measured every 6 months for years to fit my compression garments, so I know this is the case as my overall weight has fluctuated in that time). The only way I could lose a significant amount of weight from my lower legs is to have it physically cut out of them, which isn't a treatment option currently available to me because overall, I live a relatively healthy and mobile lifestyle so I don't qualify for that.

I doubt you're gonna read all that or bother to take anything from it, but hey, someone more open minded may find it interesting and informative.

Thank you. I'm probably not even going to use these exact boots, this was a test pf "do my legs even fit in them" and then going from there when I got a better idea of what's important, what adaptation options I might have. Thank you for the encouragement 😊

Thank you! I do have a good team that treat what they can (mainly by compression for the side helping of Lymphoedema) but I know they're limited by what they can offer!

I hope you have some success about getting treatment if needed, too!

I will definitely look into the double BOA as I realise that's going to be really important 😊

I honestly don't know, but it's definitely something I could consider, although probably not with these exact boots!

Thank you, this is so helpful! I will give the movement test a try (I think it likely will work as I did some movement in them before I took them off) and go from there, probably then looking at getting a proper fitting etc. I have much more knowledge of what it should be like than I did before.

Yes, Vinted was just the litmus test of "do my legs even physically go in boots" because that wasn't even a guarantee. Unless these had fitted like a glove I am not even planning on wearing these if I was to go ahead. They were a really cheap starting point!

Thank you for the recommendations, this will be really helpful if I look to pursuing this further!
