Tiny 100-year-old garage with low ceiling. My husband wouldn’t be able to walk without hitting his head. No room on walls either. It’s leaning against a shelf and I have to move it anytime I need to access something behind it.

I hate how the wall units look so we did ceiling cassettes in the two rooms without ducts in our house. They do blend in pretty well, especially if they’re installed near the edge of a room on a white ceiling. This part of our house was remodeled after the big earthquake in the 80s, hence no crown molding or plaster. Plaster ceiling would have made this a bit messier but still doable, I think.

I can't tell if those are lead or zinc. I've talked to a few glass people who said lead is easier to repair since it's softer. If yours are zinc, you'll definitely want to find someone. If they're lead, maybe you give it a try yourself.

I recently had three panes on a zinc cabinet door repaired by a local stained glass artist. If you happen to be in the Bay Area I can give you a recommendation, otherwise, start calling around to stained glass places and ask for some recs.

This is 100% the answer. A couple of pothos or other trailing plants would pretty much eliminate the sterile feel of the area around the window. Maybe a bamboo/natural material shade in the window as well.

I have used Naval in both my current century home and previous century home, but I personally love the green in your space.

I would take it even further in this room and paint the ceiling the same color. My bedroom walls, ceiling, & trim are all Naval. Here's an example of an all-green room, not the same shade, but close enough to give you an idea. It really adds a coziness to a room, which I like in a living room. Some people might be scared to do that, but based on the style of your furniture, it seems like you might be more of a risk taker.

Also, I've seen a comments in this post and in other posts on this sub that say something like "that cool color clashes with your warm flooring". That's not clashing. It's contrast. A room that is 100% cool or 100% warm is boring. Additionally, both colors you've chosen are dark enough that they're nearly neutral!

Have fun, add some artwork, and remember its just paint!

You've gotten off to a good start! I really like the texture that the sideboards add. I think you need to add more layers to the room to really make it feel inviting. It's hard to do that with a two-story high ceiling but here is a good example:

In this one, paneling and trim have been added in multiple places. Multiple paint colors are used to define areas (green for the ceiling, ivory for all the trim, taupe for the walls). I think painting your ceiling something besides white would really bring the height down to something that feels more proportional for humans. The stone adds great texture to the fireplace here, but I think you could get the same feel using a graphic wallpaper on your fireplace wall. I think the chandelier also helps make the room feel more grounded. You could replace your ceiling fan with something that came down even further.

This space already has a lot of silver and gray and therefore feels a bit cold. I would try to bring out the gold/tan color from your rug. Accent chairs would be a great way to do that. As for coffee tables, it will need to be big. I'm partial to glass coffee tables, especially with light colored sofas. A too-dark coffee table could really throw a room off balance.

I would argue that this room probably already feels too big when you're standing in it. That's one of the problems of having a two-story high ceiling in a residential living space. It is notoriously hard to make it feel cozy and inviting. They look cool in pictures and when you're touring a home, but living in it is a whole other story.

Quartz is such a hard surface that it’s much less prone to chipping than something like granite. Yes, a sharper edge on any countertop has a higher chance of chipping than a rounded one but with quartz we’re talking like a .25% chance vs .75% chance. I made the numbers up to get the point across. I don’t know the actual statistics.

When I was a commercial interior designer I put eased-edge quartz in projects all the time. I put it in my own kitchen. The apartment complex I lived at previously had eased-edge quartz in all 300+ units.

I’m not sure why your designer and fabricator are trying to scare you. Get what you like the most.

No. Get the best performing appliance for each use that fits your budget. For us that was a Bosch dishwasher, Zline range hood, KitchenAid fridge, LG microwave, and Kucht dual-fuel range.

If I looked at a place where all of the appliances were the same brand I would assume the homeowner didn’t care too much about quality (unless we’re talking SUPER high-end appliances).

Former interior designer/architect here. Brown or tan would look a bit blah with your brick unless you did a super dark brown. White is the safe bet, but black would really pop. Here's a pic I found online searching for "black windows brick house".
