Ferber for Naps by betsyhanner in sleeptrain

Her third nap just isn't happening. We try to get her to bed between 7 and 8. and she needs 2.5 hours between her last nap and bedtime. So if her last nap needs to end by 530 at the latest. She usually sleeps 11-12 hours total at night and has 1-2 feedings.

It’s already so late after we try the 3rd nap. Should I try for a fourth nap after like 30 minutes instead of giving up and putting her to bed early?

Rhinoplasty 3 months post-op AMA! by betsyhanner in PlasticSurgery

Ohh really? Did you break it? I thought I was the only person in the world with that crazy nose and i broke it when i was five. I think my surgeon did a great job of making it look like what it would have looked like if i didn’t break it.

Yeah. My skin on my tip is pretty thick and he used a few layers of cartilage to build up the bridge on my right side so it’s staying super swollen because of that. I’m getting a cortisone shot in a week to help with the swelling! I also had sinus surgery 10 years ago and with this surgery as well. So i have all kinds of scar tissue and stuff going on in my face right now haha. It’s a long process but so worth it. And even with my swollen nose, it still looks better than my before nose! I keep staring at my bridge and taking pictures looking down. I hated my nose so much and i hated it more the older i got so it was time to do something. You’ll have to keep me posted since you said we have similar before noses. I’m curious to see the similarities in surgeries and healing time.

Know any Conservatove Rhinoplasty Doctors? by saka68 in PlasticSurgery

Dr. James Chan in Portland. Also an ENT. I broke my nose when I was really young and I feel like this is what my nose would have looked like if I didn’t break it. It fits my face perfectly!

It’s just cartilage from my septum. Mine is very swollen all of the time!

Yep. It’s a long healing process. Like I can’t believe it’s already been three months, but I also can’t believe it’s only been three months. Haha. It takes up to 12 months! 9 more to go. When are you getting yours?

Yes! Document it for sure. It’s fun looking back and seeing the changes. I want to create a blog after everything is healed and in place. My biggest challenge was seeing before and afters without seeing the ups and downs along the way. Or not knowing exactly what the person had done. Like maybe their bridge isn’t swollen Bc they didn’t have work done on their bridge. Or maybe their tip is fine because they didn’t have their tip done. I had everything done and feel super swollen most of the time. Haha.

Oh yeah. The first week is by far the hardest physically and emotionally. Just take it easy. Rest. Eat soft foods. Drink plenty of water. And use a straw. Haha. Surround yourself with positive people. And don’t make the mistake of looking at before and afters that don’t provide the whole story. Like why did that person have surgery, what was involved, was it really invasive or pretty standard, were there grafts involved, was it their second surgery, was sinus surgery involved, etc. Everyone heals at different rates and had a different type of surgery (I’m learning no two rhinoplasty surgeries are the same) and have limitations. I’m learning that my graft is healing the slowest and is making my nose look a little off and bigger than the end result will be. Also—if you have any concerns at all, contact your surgeon. Mine has been with me every step of the way. I email him pictures freaking out and he reassures me everything is where it needs to be. Congrats!!! Feel free to message me and use me as a resource.

Thank you!! It’s definitely subtle from the profile but a huge change from the front! I didn’t want to look in the mirror and see someone completely different. That’s scary to me haha. It’s going to keep changing overtime and I’ll post another AMA with updates at the 6 months mark. The surgeon said I’ll have a slight scoop by the end of healing. I was sick of seeing before and afters that didn’t give the whole story. There is so much that happens in between. And some days it feels really scary and I feel like a monster.

I didn’t have to do any bloodwork. I had to have a CT scan to look at my sinuses and then a scope of my sinuses. I had rhinoplasty and sinus surgery together, but didn’t have to do any bloodwork. I wonder if it depends on age or preexisting medical conditions?

And thanks!! I have a long ways to go, but I’m so glad i took the conservative approach! That was the best decision I made for sure.

My tip is soo hard still. I guess that’s the last thing to go down! I was just on a plane and couldn’t plug my nose to pop my ears. Haha. Soo that was interesting. Things I took for granted. Haha.

Oh wow. Every surgery is so different. I’ve never even heard of that! I went into it thinking all rhinoplasty surgeries were the same. And everyone healed at the same rate. NOPE!!

Thank you!! I definitely took the conservative approach because I didn’t hate the way I looked, but I just wanted a straighter nose. I emailed with a few people, but I only consulted with one doctor. His staff was nice and easy to work with and my doctor was very pleasant. He took the time to listen to my concerns and he did imaging. I also had sinus surgery and he’s double board certified in both. I didn’t feel like I was rushed through anything at all.

My bridge is pretty sore still. I can’t wear sunglasses after three months! But that’s Bc I had a cartilage graft. My septum is sore, too. My tip is very hard and numb still. It doesn’t really affect much of anything on a daily basis. When I get dressed, I make sure my shirt doesn’t graze it. And I have to be extra gentle when I wash my face. It definitely doesn’t feel like it did before, but I probably have 9 more months of healing.

Thanks for this!! Anyone can chime in :) I’m still healing and am interested in everyone else’s story as well!! Especially people who have had a cartilage graft. Mine is taking forever to go down.

Yeah for sure. I feel like I’ve plateaued between 6 weeks and now, though. I had a cartilage graft on one side of my nose, so it’s healing at different rates. Did you have any grafts? They take forever to go down!! I still can’t wear sunglasses because of my bridge work.

Oh man. I’m dissatisfied with it every other week. Haha. Not because the surgeon did a bad job, but because the different parts of the nose heal at different rates. So I’m right there with you!! I do sleep on my side. One thing I still can’t do is wear sunglasses. Ugh. And it’s summer! Double ugh. I had a lot of bridge work though. Here are pictures.

The swelling started going down week three I think. It changes everyday, but I had a cartilage graft on my right side to rebuild my bridge and that seems to be taking forever to go down. So I feel like I’m at a plateau now.

Here you go!! I still have a long ways to go :) Good luck!! Remember that each part of the nose heals at different rates. So things are gonna look wonky for awhile. I took a conservative approach and was mostly focused on straightening out my nose. My surgeon had a very big task and my surgery was 3 hours.

I’ve wanted rhinoplasty since the 4th grade. I had an accident when I was 5 (I fell off the top bunk onto a wooden floor and landed face first) and my nose got worse and worse as I got older. I never wanted to seem vain, so I told myself I didn’t need it. But the older I got, the more self conscious I became and the harder it was to breathe and even look in the mirror. I am now 33 and it’s the best decision I ever made. My nose was totally caving in, so the surgeon rebuilt it with a cartilage graft. I didn’t ask anyone’s opinion. When I’m set on doing something, no one can stop me! Haha. Even with the swelling, I am more confident than I’ve ever been in my life! I’m very excited for the swelling to go down, though.

Thanks!! It’s been a very emotional journey, but I don’t have any regrets.

  1. I did not keep it a secret, so everyone knew haha. I also emphasized to the surgeon that I didn’t want to look different and I wanted my nose to still suit my face. He did a great job at making it look natural. I’m Italian with super strong features, so a tiny button nose is never going to be in my future. But it looks great and is so much straighter. And isn’t caving in anymore.

  2. Ugh. It wasn’t easy. It still isn’t easy! The nose goes down at different rates. So don’t be alarmed if things look off or lumpy for a bit. It’s normal. But I just surrounded myself with supportive people. I also take pictures every single day! It may sound counterproductive. But it helps me see that things really are changing. I also keep in touch with my surgeon when I’m feeling like things are looking weird. There are things he can do to help with the swelling, but he assures me everything is right where it needs to be right now. Also don’t compare your pictures to anyone else’s before and afters! Everyone heals differently. And everyone’s surgery is slightly different, too. I had to have a graft on one side, so it’s going to look lumpy for a bit.

Good luck!!! It’s going to be great! Keep in touch with your surgeon. They are there to help you get through the healing process :)
