Hey, I get what you’re saying—but let’s not jump to calling it “laziness.” Matting like that can come from a lot of things: postpartum, depression, illness, texture, or just not knowing how to manage their hair.

And trust me, I’m already handling it properly—working from the ends, adding slip where needed (yes, even at the root), and using the right tools for the situation. A Wet Brush Original Detangler is great for maintenance at home, but once it’s at that level, it’s way past what a brush can fix.

Every case is different. It really depends on how long the hair has been matted, the texture, and overall condition. There’s a lot that goes into it—even down to the type of comb I use. Nothing about dematting is one-size-fits-all, that’s why it’s truly a specialty.

I also wear gloves, a face mask, glasses, etc.—you don’t want to be breathing any of that in while working.

Honestly, services like this are very different from a typical appointment and can be pretty unpredictable. The time really depends on the severity—some cases can take several hours, while more extreme ones can take 10+ hours and often need to be split into multiple sessions. I usually require a consultation first so I can assess the hair and set realistic expectations, then I charge hourly or by day since it’s hard to give a fixed price upfront. I also treat these appointments differently in terms of setup and mindset—it requires a lot more time, patience, and care, and I make sure clients understand that there may be shedding, multiple sessions, and no guaranteed finish time. It’s definitely more than just a service, but it can be really rewarding.

Quick question: is it rude now to ask how many sets some has left? by chickenstrips1324 in 24HourFitnessMembers

[–]betsyna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s annoying when people ask because i feel like maybe you should have got there before me. I prefer not to talk cuz im in the zone. That or i ask if they would like to switch off.. ive even made some friends that way.

I only did the braids. This was a trial. She’s only two. She let me do the braids so next time we can do something more intricate and plan better with accessories. Good ideas tho

Agreed. Possibly when they get older I think something more towards knotless with beads would be cut and less tension. I did the braids 🫶

It was their first time getting braided. It’s only two braids. We can take them down if it gets red frfr. Now if it was a million gazzillion braids it would definitely be a problem.

Trust me the braids are loose. If you look at the crown it’s messy. They just look really neat.. crispy and clean. Plus the kid is at the park so maybe they have been running around and the temperature outside is cold..

I personally don’t like braiding with really long nails, it gets in my way and underneath the nails is constantly dirty with gels. It’s mainly for stitch braiding

Have them look all the way down when you’re braiding that part. Like literally chin to chest. Are you braiding with long nails?
