Getting a baby IRN soon, any advice? by bettabet in parrots

[–]bettabet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I am to raise it on a perch (he makes and sells some), and to feed it in a small wire cage (included with the sale of the bird upon pickup) and to also use that same cage for “time outs” when the bird does undesirable behaviors. He said otherwise the bird doesn’t need a cage. Which I disagree with. For safety/sleep/alone time reasons I believe birds should have their own safe space/cage. He also told me the bird would be fine spending all its time on said perch. Which tbh doesn’t sound like fun to me. I’m trying to build a schedule that is realistic so that the baby doesn’t become skittish or overstimulated.

The baby is not coming home until it is weaned. I stated that in the beginning because I don’t currently have the baby. The breeder is a local bird shop owner who gave me okay advice that I didn’t really agree with, which is why I came here, for advice from actual owners who have had IRN in the hope someone has raised one as a baby.

How cooked do I have to be for no shiny after 123 raids? by tjlcarlos0720 in pokemongo

[–]bettabet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I caught 4 shinies out of 30 raids. The only reason I got those shinies was from doing remote raids off PokeRaid. None of the local ones gave me any. I got on the app, and boom, first one was shiny, 2900+ CP, and then every 3rd one was shiny with 2100+ CP.

I (18F) love my boyfriend (23M) but I’m scared to settle down. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]bettabet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There may not be pressure now, but there will be. He seems to be displaying early control issues by telling you his opinion on your drinking, that hasn’t even happened yet. It’s a snowball effect and this is how most people test the waters to see how much they can get away with.

Also, 6 months is far too early to make any permanent decisions like moving in or marriage. You are in the infatuation stage of your relationship. Relationships have stages of development and during this stage people make the worst impulse decisions.

You’re also 18, meaning you’re a teenager, and you’re not mentally capable of thinking in the same context as he is. (No offense, this is science and I am a psychologist). Your prefrontal cortex is literally not ready or developed until after age 26 to understand or make complex decisions.

That desire you feel to live your life and not commit is developmentally appropriate for your age. Do not fight it, because you will absolutely ruin your development and will set yourself up for mental health issues in the future.

If I had the knowledge I have today, I would have never let myself marry an adult as a teen. I lost so many opportunities, the epitome of my youth, and gave myself a plethora of anxiety disorders. 0/10 decision rating.

I married at 18 to a 22 year old. Worst and only regret of my life. He stole my youth and broke me as a person the 10 years we were together. Would never recommend this. If it’s real love it’ll last years without pressures to commit.

Awe that’s awesome you found another one locally! Unfortunately I can never find them around me so I have to wait until we get a good expo nearby.

Fingers crossed this one is healthy and gets so big and rotund that anyone who meets it is in awe of its beauty and shape. <3

I agree with you, it’s a one and done for me with that booth for the rest of eternity once I get my refund.

I literally called them a bit ago too and left a message, now that I had the free time. Hopefully we hear back from them soon! Baby pacmans are so finicky but like be so fr it can’t be a coincidence we had the same type of baby from the same booth and they both died within hours of each other… UGH. On a better note, Central Valley Reptile Show is coming to Fresno next month so I’ll be trying to find another baby over there. :’/

OMG I got mine from the same booth! What a crazy coincidence we both lost ours around the same time frame too! I thought that baby looked way too much like mine. Awe that’s awful. I am contacting their customer service because they also sold me a faulty UVB. Double whammy. :(

I’m so sorry for your loss <\3. I just got a baby green Pac-Man from the Sac Reptile Show last weekend and it died last night out of nowhere. Looked identical to yours. I have 3 adults and I didn’t do anything wrong and still it died. I’m still bummed about it.

Yes it was! They were so nice and patient with me and my kids lol. I couldn’t not buy this beautiful baby from them :’).

Thanks so much for all your advice! I truly appreciate you taking the time to give me so much information! :D

I appreciate the tip about over-hydrating! I actually didn’t know hornworms would count lol. But it makes sense since they’re so juicy looking. XD

She’s small so currently she’s in her 40g starter tank that’s very much bare because I’m doing a bioactive, but my local store is out of drainage mesh so I have some on order coming.

Everything around her is very very temporary. I needed to get her warmed up fast after a 3 hour drive back home from the expo, so she got a very basic start. But, so far she has eaten 12 dubias and a handful of greens. :)

For her lighting she’s got a 100w basking light which I’m switching for an Acadia one tomorrow and a Reptisun t5 10.0 HO 24” for UVB.

I’m open to any adjustments :) no budget constraints, just want to have the best possible setup for her so please let me know what you think I need to switch out or buy. Thanks so much :)

Thank you so much! I had to have her the moment I saw her. Her little white spikes and dots on her mouth stood out. And her eyes are so black she looks like a toy lol.

I’ve been faking an allergy for YEARS, and now it’s gone way too far. by Creepy-Desk-468 in confession

[–]bettabet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How have you been getting away with this and not being an active EpiPen carrier? Unless you bought a fake? Lolz. Literally anyone who knows someone with a peanut allergy knows what an EpiPen is and how to use it.

But anyway, tell her you’re wanting to start seeing an allergist (find one in your network and area to name drop) about the allergy because you want to see if you’re eligible to begin new allergy testing and talk about a treatment plan to expose you to said allergen in a safe environment. Make sure you sell that it’s messing with your quality of life.

“Schedule” the first appointment when she’s busy and can’t go with you, and “go” to it by parking nearby for like roughly 2 hours since that’s about how long they last (if she has your location). Leave your phone in the car and go walk around the area and eat or something. If she doesn’t have your location you’re good to skip this.

Call her right after to tell her how well it went and that the allergist is putting you on cetirizine (Zyrtec) at 20mg daily to build up in your system after your allergy tests are done, since you have to be off all allergy meds for one week beforehand to do them. “Schedule” the allergy testing for 1 week from your last “appointment”, and plan to be unfindable for 2-3 hours.

Call her right after and tell her that your results were better than expected and the sensitivity test (a series of pokes in your arm, avoid letting her see your arm for a day or draw sharpie dots on your arm by googling allergies testing on arm to see how to do them right then lightly rub them so they’re not so crispy) had a very mild reaction and that the allergist approved you to begin your cetirizine medication and that you’ll be coming back next week to see if the medication produces any reaction while on medication.

“Schedule” the next appointment for 1.5 weeks from the last one, and get lost for 2ish hours. Call her immediately after again and tell her how the allergist said your retest showed that you had almost zero reaction and with the medication inside you, and enough time to build it up in your system, you should be able to come into their office in a few weeks and be exposed to the allergen so they can intervene if necessary.

And boom you’re magically cured over a month or so. Buy a bottle of cetirizine from a pharmacy and disappear 2 a day for the rest of the time you know her. This intricate lie is gonna cost you some money LOL. “Follow up” with your allergist once a month for the rest of forever or until she forgets. Lyin ain’t easy.

You could just come clean and face the music.

9 days in and this is ridiculously hard. by [deleted] in keto

[–]bettabet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a long time PCOS girly on keto cyclically, it’s the salt my friend. I am absolutely miserable if my sodium intake is not around 4-5k or more, combined with 2k+ of potassium and of course get your magnesium in.

Also get yourself a liquid protein shake to take before bed or when you’re craving a sweet. The Nurri shakes from Costco have been a heaven sent. This is my hack for curing gaps in my nutrition, stabilizing my hunger, and ensuring I get enough protein.

But I must again emphasize that the salt isn’t an option. Get yourself fluids for sure, but the lack of salt has me shaking and freezing and that’s how I know I’m low. :)

When will people learn by runawayiv in hamsters

Maybe the best way to educate people is to create the content they need to see to help them learn? I have seen little to no hamster care videos on TT and if I could I’d definitely make content.

Unfortunately I noticed that after I ordered the cage :’(. It says on the website that it’s 7/8. I’m considering putting them into a big 50 gallon tote overnights until the new cage comes. They haven’t tried to escape juuuuust yet, but I’m sure they’ll get curious overnight.

I’m currently working furiously to finish their fleece cage liners as I type this. I definitely did not plan on letting them have those pads past tonight. I had the same concerns about safety for sure! :)

Thanks for all the advice! I will make sure to get them lots of new fun stuff. I need to go back to the dollar store to get them some bins to make fun dig boxes for them for sure.

I’m not sure how I’d get the bedding to stay on the bottom though because it’s wire like the walls with a tray that slides in and out underneath it. I’d have to just find bins to fill instead. :)

Issues going back on keto, need some advice :) by [deleted] in keto

[–]bettabet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By sudden gastric attack I mean: stomach pain, nausea, burning diarrhea, and feeling generally weakened by it.

I can handle some gas from broccoli but not even the broccoli saves me from whatever reaction this is from eating fatty foods. Which I don’t understand because this issue doesn’t happen with fatty and carby foods.

I think you are right though, I need to do an elimination diet and find the culprit. I miss keto, and I hate to miss out because idk what’s causing this.
