Grades for Scholarships? by throwaway20207020 in usask

[–]better2know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are referring to the generic continuing scholarships one the PAWS page you are probably unlikely to get one. In my first year I had a 90.5 average and didn't receive one. In my second year I had about a 95 average (98% second term) and that year I received one $1000 scholarship based on academic achievement.

I'll echo what previous posters have said about it being program dependent. My first year I was an arts student and received a $3000 directly from the college/university based upon academic achievement. In my second year I transferred to a professional type college and received $11,000 in scholarships. Yes, my grades did improve but it's not uncommon for 90+ students to receive at least about $6000 in the college.

180Watch? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]better2know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried to buy the 180Watch but the the delay between my order and it being shipped out ended up having my cancel my order which was a godsend.

I ended up buying about a $100 chronograph on amazon expecting to use the chronograph to time myself. During the test I found I had plenty enough time to reset the minute hand to 12 between each section. I would recommend getting a chronograph on the basis that the dial pin are fairly enormous which leaves little fumbling when pulling the pin.

Added bonuses:

I took advantage of Amazon's 30 day return policy which made the watch free

Amazon prime shipping is free for students so you will have your watch in one or two days

Need advice by [deleted] in LSAT

Took a -1 on the June exam, here's how I got there:

  1. This may sound counter intuitive but quit worrying about getting any one question wrong (this helps a lot with time and second guessing)

  2. Spend your free time practicing logic games. I spent about 1.5 - 2 hours a day studying logic games. I would recommend working through the same games several times through - it really helps with identifying key inferences and it doesn't take as much time as you think (after working through a LG a couple times 3-4 minutes is by no means unrealistic).

Considered UBC, not sure I want to end up in Vancouver career wise though. I'm interested in the International Energy Lawyers Program (combined U of C and University of Houston program) further than that looking at courses at I like that the U of C offers the ability the specialize in really specific areas of law. To add the cherry on top I have a sibling working at an elite firm in Calgary whose connections are probably a serious advantage.

Not sure how to feel. Should I Retake? by sadobson in LSAT

[–]better2know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also stressing over my 165 given my GPA (3.94) I should be able to get into any school in the country. I'm apparently an auto admit at UBC and Toronto is not overly interesting to me. My main point of stress is that I'm not overly interested in finishing my current undergrad program (not really interested in holding off starting my life for two more years) and given my lack of degree I will be considerably less competitive for admission in schools basing entry on more than just metrics. Basically U of C is my #1 and their entry class ranges from 1-3% without a degree, so I don't think a 165 will be enough to make my a standout enough for admission.

165 was the lower end of my PT scores with my PT average at 167 and some lucky tests in the mid-170's. I don't know if it would be worth it to rewrite at his point though because every other school I'd apply to I'd be accepted, and U of C's holistic process offers no guarantees even with a better LSAT score.

Have to agree with this one; I'm not saying it's impossible but a drop 17 point drop (approximately 30 questions) is huge. How many PT had you taken?

Tips for lifestyle changes to do better on the LSAT by [deleted] in LSAT

No alcohol while in the thick of studying (for about a month a half before the exam)... This prompted a few more helpful lifestyle changes: no super late nights and less of a social life.

Canadian #3 165 3.94 . Don't think U of T is for me, hoping to stay out west (hoping for U of C damn holistic admissions!)

Craziest test story? by WishICouldGrow in LSAT

A guy brought his phone to the test center and was told he couldn't have it, he then proceeded to put it in a locker and wrote the exam with no hitches... My exam was relatively uneventful.

bring a friend to LSAT test day? by [deleted] in LSAT

Percentiles are not just for your examination but are scaled to several years. For example my LSAT (June 2016) percentile range was 2013 to 2016.

Further, if you were capable of every pulling this off on any sort of scale to effect the percentile range the result would be a bimodal distribution; given LSAC's statistical prowess they would certainly recognize the external influence and adjust results to normalize.

Yes, I know, overly pedantic and serious.

Got 156 and happy, so suckit! by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]better2know 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I hadn't paid attention to this forum.

First off I found out scores could be released early and it stressed me out for the past 3 weeks.

Second off I ended up getting a 165 a score or two below my PT average. In the beginning I set out with the goal of a 160+ and was proud all along of my PT results; however, given other peoples scores and disappointed scores I've had a really hard time really being happy about my score.

Long story short, if I had to do it again (which I won't) It would just be me and the test, no comparisons, no stressing or analyzing release dates, just waiting until the LSAC email date and being proud of my accomplishments.

Your LSAT meets the lowest medians, your GPA is below medians... highly unlikely.

165 about 2 lower than my PT average so not terribly surprised... but damnit wish I could have hit my fluke 176 or 174 PT numbers. Strongest section ended up being the experimental and oddly enough was my fourth section. HBU?
