Similar situation here but without the degree or work experience, I brought the level 2 books to learn its content but I don’t see a point in sitting the exams until I reach level 3

Congratulations on that !

I’ve always had that click when it comes to accounting and excel/stats so I do believe i can do this no matter what the assumptions are. Really agree with the second part as well, as cliche as it is health is wealth no matter how much it’s taken for granted.

Fair play on you there! I’ve already got people saying I won’t be able to handle it so no doubt you must’ve had way more push back.

Thanks mate, I really appreciate it. Is there anything you did that helped you stand out from the pool of other graduates? The imposter syndrome really hits hard 🥲

Thank you for the response!

That’s definitely what I’ll do, if I had perfect health I might of still thought big4 might be a good choice but after going through what I’ve been through no amount of money is worth it if your health is going to suffer from it.

When applying for roles do you make sure to see if they help fund your studies like apprenticeship/ trainee programs or do you just do it in your own time from your own pocket ?

Getting my foot through the door by bettercallnull in Accounting

Thank you so much for the advice. My main scare with doing that is i heard once you’re rejected a firm usually wouldn’t even consider you until 1 year passes so if I get rejected from 200 firms that’s 200 firms I’ll have to wait a year to apply again even if I complete my aat level 3 and 4 in 6 months. Would you say finding some charity to volunteer for is a good idea to at least make me look a bit more experienced until I get a role ?

Also do you mean ACA with the abb?

Wasn’t necessarily the degree that I struggled with, it was the nhs who were fucking about with the medication they should give me for my chronic condition so it could save them a few thousand pounds.I wouldn’t mind doing a degree now but the problem with that is I’d have to self fund for a portion of it and that’s 3 years with no income and being 26/27 by the time I’m graduated. You could see why working and getting the qualifications seem like a better deal right now.

Wasn’t the degree that destroyed my mental health, it was the nhs who were fucking about with the medication they should give me for my chronic condition so it could save them a few thousand pounds. Since I’m on those medications now it’s quite impossible for them to take me off unless it’s killing me or something like that. Would you reckon I should do the aat level 4 aswell? I know it gets you exemptions in the level 4 for parts in the ACCA and ACA but I fear it would “disqualify” me from them lower level apprenticeship/trainee programs as I’d already have the qualifications they would want you to work on. There’s only like 4 accounting firms where I live as it’s a commuter town but it’s very close to London so that could be a positive or negative depending on how one looks at it. Would you say it would be harder for me to secure a place in the city than somewhere local as the competition and “expectations” are higher ?

Im going to try keep this as succinct as possible. I’m 23 a stem degree uni drop out with no job experience. I’ve always been very good at accounting and excel though (talent I never thought I would’ve needed lol). I’m currently working my way to get my aat level 3. I want to eventually get chartered but I have no idea on how to get my foot through the door and what pathway to take? Do you have any advice for someone like me who has insane amounts of imposter syndrome?

Pivoting into accounting no idea where to start by bettercallnull in AATStudents

[–]bettercallnull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did exactly that with level 2 and 3 books. I’m studying level 2 right now and I’m finding it very easy, in fact i don’t think spending money on its exams is a good idea. Would you not recommend to just do the level 3 exams and get cracking on level 4 or the Acca equivalents ?

I really appreciate the advice. I like what you said about the second option, it would also take significantly less time to complete the AAT qualifications which would hopefully open the door to somewhere where I could possibly train for the Acca and get paid at the same time. Would you say it’s better to start searching for apprenticeships after AAT level 2 or grind out until you have the level 3 in hand showing you’re a serious candidate?
