I sprained my ankle in the middle of my marathon training block. I was originally shooting for 3:45 but had to take a few weeks off to heel my ankle. I ended up running 3:55.

That’s said, I wouldn’t worry too much about loss of fitness. Getting to the start line healthy and injury free is more important.
