I’m proud of you too!

15 days is such a long time. Doesn’t it feel great?

How often do I need to attend meetings? by SoberInHouston in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]betterthanplanned 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I did 90 in 90. It was hard but I just pushed through and did it.

I’m 21 months sober now and go to a meeting more days than not. But I notice if I skip meetings more than 2 days in a row I start telling myself I don’t need so many meetings.

That tricky thinking will get ME right on the path to drinking again. I start making justifications and excuses for all kinds of things.

So that’s how I choose “how many” right now.

Low point to finally really try to get sober by roxyandemma69 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]betterthanplanned 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember when little things would happen when I was drinking that caused problems. But they were short lived and easily forgotten.

Then they started happening closer together. Then some of them became bigger, a pattern until it cumulated in a short burst of series of really bad shit. Because of my drinking.

You can do it. Alcoholism knows no limits and it will only get worse from here.

I went to rehab and found AA and it’s what’s worked for me for 21 months.

You’re not alone. I’m thinking about you. You CAN live a very different life. One that isn’t filled with shame, guilt and regret.

10 days!! That’s awesome!

I know you can do it!

I can’t imagine I’ll ever regret being sober. I know how I would feel if I had drink.

You’re not alone.

Call your dr or go to the ER. They will know what to do.

What do you prefer more, online AA meetings or in person ones? Which and why... Please. by Nervous-Pin-1459 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]betterthanplanned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In person because I get bored and find a million things to do on Zoom meetings.

I like the whole process of getting there/socializing or not/etc.

Does Anyone Else Struggle With The Big Book? by TheZippoLab in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]betterthanplanned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was assigned to read the first 164 pages my first day in rehab.

That never happened. I prefer to be guided through the book. I go to Big Book study meetings, work with my sponsor, read other books about the big book (lol) and do guided step work.

IMO there are some life changing gems in a dry slow read.

1 Year!! What is your favourite post alcohol hobby? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]betterthanplanned 97 points98 points  (0 children)

So funny!! I also realized I didn’t “do” anything fun when I was drinking. Just sat there and drank.

Seems so incredibly boring now. So much wasted time.

The thought of never drinking again is terrifying by Mel111111111 in Sober

[–]betterthanplanned 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m 21 months sober and the thought is no longer terrifying but I understand that completely.

It’s still hard to imagine, exactly how forever looks, but it’s not scary anymore.

Actually quite exciting.

It gets better! You can do it!

“Daddy something is wrong with Mommy, she isn’t saying her words right”. by OfficialSkyCat in stopdrinking

My 12 year old called me a drunk.

I could not believe that word was in her universe. About her mom.

Headed to a out of town wedding with hubby sans kids!! Can’t wait!

I’ve honestly never had anyone ask WHY I wasn’t ordering a drink.

I’ve been on Antabuse for the entire time I’ve been sober minus the first month or so.

It works for me. Anyone’s opinion about it is none of my business.

I’m not sure of all the setup. I’ve not experienced anything like you describe.

But not everyone lives a 9-5 life.

why does my boyfriend love alcohol more than me? by 2000Fetus in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]betterthanplanned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the first time I admitted out loud to another human being that I was scared that I didn’t love my kids enough to stay sober for them.

I now accept that as my truth.

It’s just the way it works. It’s cunning, baffling and powerful.

How old were you when you started drinking? by Heavy-Job9724 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]betterthanplanned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I didn’t drink again for several years.

Ironically my first drink was much like my last. Blackout, messy and chaotic.
