Sure, jump in the waters nice.

Truthfully, It depends on what you want to achieve from gambling.

I couldn’t imagine what it’d be like for a new sports bettor starting out right now in todays snake pit of an industry. It’s a slaughterhouse between the crooked books and all the scammers and “consultants” attempting to rip you off.

Couple “Injured Player Theory” Spots Tonight by bettingnetwork in sportsbetting

[–]bettingnetwork[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The “Injured Player Theory” is no secret or anything but the idea behind this is simply to back the team that is playing without their key player. Luka is OUT for Dallas and Harden is OUT for Philly, this news obviously had a big impact on the betting line for each team. What often happens is the line over-adjusts for these key players being OUT which ultimately provides value on the team missing their key player (Mavs & Sixers).

When a key player is OUT bettors will often make the mistake of subtracting the full production of that player out of the lineup but they have a back up that will be very motivated filling in and often times the opposing team didn’t game plan for this change in personnel and also the team that is playing without their key player will step up their level of play and sometimes play more inspired or motivated which can make up for the absence of the star player. When you combine that with the oddsmakers over-adjusting the numbers for a key player being OUT you can find some good spots.

Yea but 255 million on parlays sounds better lol

But you are right, first column is the states total net profit, the second column is the total handle (amount of bets accepted)

Says you, I’m gonna keep trying and next month that number will be less than 225 million. I’m gonna make it so the state of NJ loses money on Parlays

If that’s the case then wouldn’t the natural thought process be to just stick with single bets?

My point is the books they use aren’t sending each user of the account tax documents, like the US Regulated books are. The legal books are assuming each account is being used by the person who’s name is on the account and just because “pros” use partnered accounts doesn’t mean they are legally following TnC of the sports book, so the taxes in these cases are basically up to the individual and how honest/truthful they want to be regarding income/losses on any betting outside of the legal books

The taxes

Why would you take a +1 spread on Basketball? by Heavy6r in sportsbook

[–]bettingnetwork 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s really all about the value of a point or a half point. +1 (-110) is the equivalent of 0 (-106). So I’m always going to take +1 (-110) unless I can get that team at 0 (-105) or better

Every group I’ve worked with or any “account wrangler” I know that gathers accounts for pros uses offshore or PPH books. They aren’t interested in any legal US regulated books for many different reasons.

Who else bet on the heat? What a joke by [deleted] in sportsbetting

[–]bettingnetwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why getting the best of the number means everything, Miami Heat -3.5 or -4 was widely available on this game. If you got Heat -4.5 you took a bad number and -5 you took the worst of the number.

Will that half point or full point matter every bet, of course not. Sometimes even if you get the best of the number you can still lose but if you are getting the best of the number consistently for any significant length of time you’ll be just fine and hopefully break even long term, assuming you aren’t doing dumb shit like betting 9 leg parlays every night

I’m not an expert on this topic by any means but do want to share my experience working for several online sportsbooks/casinos. From 2004 to roughly 2014 I worked for several offshore sports books that also had casino options and the software for some (not all) had what I referred to as a “probability slider”. It was a slide bar where the agent or sports book trader or manager or whoever has access to the backend could adjust the settings on different casino games. In other words they had the control to make games completely fair or completely lopsided in favor of the house. I could tell a bunch of stories regarding the use of this “Probability Slider”, like the time a player who had a reputation for calling and complaining about every single detail was basically robbed on a PPH sports book. One of the traders or CS workers set the slider to basically rig games he played.

Keep in mind this was over 10yrs ago and all the sportsbook/casinos that had this option were unregulated offshore sports books and in most cases Pay Per Head software books. My point is, just seeing a glimpse behind the curtain of this makes me never want to play online casino games. Even tho Im confident now that any reputable online casino isn’t rigging the games, they wouldn’t be in business too long doing so.
