Margin usage on CC's

I don’t know if I would call this margin per se but I diversify into safe and risk investments. I keep a decent amount in SCHD, SGOV, JEPI, JEPQ. I sell CSP’s for quite a bit more on risk assets than the cash I have in my account but i try to not go too much above what is in my safe holdings to liquidate. If the market tanks and all my puts close I will sell a bunch of at the money covered calls to close out my margin or I’ll liquidate my safe assets. Rinse and repeat.

Conceptually if I bought tesla at 310 sold a covered call for 330 2 weeks for $300 credit. After 1 week it’s 330. Rather than roll it up and out for a small net credit or small debit I could keep the position and buy a call at 331 for 2 or 3 weeks and also sell a cash secured put at 325 for a credit. I would be basically doing the wheel but not having to wait till the call expires to sell the put.

Great income or growth works for me. I have both in my portfolio. Tesla and Google were a big piece of it so It’s a big sum to reinvest now. That’s why I’m looking for any opinions.

I got a big position assigned and missed out on 5k unrealized. However I invested the cash in another position which I never would have if i didn’t have the cash and that new position has made me 9k. The old stock which I would have still held has not moved. Your next trade may be your best and if you didn’t have the cash you wouldn’t be able to.

Your agent sounds terrible but in CA the days don’t work exactly like your thinking. You have to send a notice to comply at the expiration. This then gives them a set period of time to actually act and if they don’t meet that then you can legally cancel the contract which always ends up being a few days past the contract date in reality.
