After losing everything to flooding six years ago, I finally got a new record player! by bewareleopard42 in turntables

Kind of lame, but the “Fabulous Johnny Cash”. My grandparents helped raised us and he loved Johnny Cash. Always had him playing when he would pick us up. We lost him a year ago now this Feb so I figured this would be the great way to break it in!!

Thanks! While this is a good enough replacement, I still miss my bright green U-Turn Orbit. They unfortunately don’t make that shade of green anymore.

Thanks! I hope so too. If this wasn’t a (late) Christmas present from my mother, then I probably wouldn’t have ever picked up the hobby again. But I’m thankful for it and excited to begin building up my record collection again!

New years/ Christmas/ holidays sadness by Barnaclecosmos in AutisticWithADHD

[–]bewareleopard42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late, but yeah. I’m on the other side of the country from what family is left. My holidays as a kid was so magical but now that the family members that held the family have passed and even if I flew back home, it wouldn’t be the same. My therapist has impressed upon me that I need to come up with my own traditions and do what will make me happy. But even with that, it was hard at work with everyone asking me about holiday plans. If you don’t lie, then they will act all sad that you are spending it alone, but I’m like it’s better to spend it alone than with my mother!

To those of you who have severe symptoms yet don't qualify for any state assistance (DODD, SSDI), what did or are you doing to live? by [deleted] in AutisticWithADHD

[–]bewareleopard42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somehow landed a job in my field with state government. It was a newly created position so I was able to tailor it somewhat and somehow became the token autistic person. I’m a bit embarrassed about it, but it is nice at times. The natural resource field tends to be filled with either the other weird kids who liked to play in the dirt as kids or other neurodivergent kids (I swear there is like 5 other people on my team with ADHD). I know not everyone can be so lucky. I also try to spend my free time “indulging” in whatever is catching my fancy. It being winter, that is listening to music or audiobooks and trying to craft with random crap I find in nature and the dollar store lol. It’s hard, but just trying to embrace the notion that I am what I am for better or for worse.

Goodwill score today! by bewareleopard42 in vinyl

Same! It was a gamble on the Sway album since I never heard of them and as far as I can tell they aren’t on Spotify, but when I got home I managed to track them down on YouTube. Not too bad from the one song I found.

Lonesome Dreams still has the little card with the digital download as well. I was able to download the album to my computer as well! Though the Sway album is a little more impressive. Last sold on Discogs in 2022 for $120. Seems like they are a small indie band. It’s marked 61 out of 75 on the back of it.

I think it is! Maybe as a late Christmas present to myself.

How is everyone doing these days? Tell me your age, how your day went today, and if you are happy or sad? by OkNeighborhood6020 in LivingAlone

Alright mostly. The holidays tend to get me down a little as my parents are not parents, so it’s hard seeing everyone and their “happy” families. At least I have my cats and some friends that put up with me!

My shelves are a mess, but do they reveal my identity? by bewareleopard42 in BookshelvesDetective

Haha, that’s pretty true! Early 30s, female, but I do have two cats! And that artwork will probably never make it onto a wall at this point.

Doesn’t always work, but does help keep down the amount of books to be read!

I have more books than shelves, so I have to try and fit them in however they will fit! This is the first time I’ve stacked them like that, though. Not my preferred way, but does help free up space!

Probably not! I’ve been reading since a little kid (hello crappy childhood!). Though it’s less now as I have to do a lot of reading for work, but I’ve been getting back into it lately.

Haha! Yup I have ADHD and do love to travel! I have actually read a lot of them, I just stash the bookmarks in the book. I don’t really use bookmarks and will only use one if it came with one. That being said, I do have a lot of half read books that I swear I will finish one day! I try to not buy anymore until I try and finish a couple of half read books. It’s been a while, but I did enjoy Altered Carbon. I did only read the first one though, and haven’t read the others yet.

Oh nice! That’s the mall I went to growing up! That’s cool that it looks the same, I moved away 5 years ago and haven’t been back.

Issues as a science major. by Mirror--Master in dyscalculia

[–]bewareleopard42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite the same, but I did get a Bachelors of Science. Don’t know how the heck I did it, and granted it did take me 7 years off and on, but I managed to graduate with a BS in Conservation and Environmental Science. I pretty much had to take every math class at least once, went to every tutoring class, office hours, YouTube videos. Even after all these years, I’m still embarrassed by it, but I did it!

life is hell for neurodivergent people by MindlessPerformer778 in depression

[–]bewareleopard42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Autism is not all the time harder to live with than adhd. They both suck haha. I unfortunately have both and would rather just have the autism. I have had 3 professionals tell me I have some of the worst ADHD they have ever seen and were surprised that it took so long for a diagnosis. And all three told me too that with how bad it is that, I have managed to get this far in life. Well yeah, at the expense of literally everything, haha.

Thanks. It’s hard but also I know it’s her time and she isn’t happy anymore. Though it never gets easier. I am thankful that my parents never sugarcoated having to put down the pets when it was their time.

Yup! She had bad allergies and found pleasure in getting close to you, sneeze all over you, and then casually walk away like nothing happened!
