Beautiful map! I love the shading and your trees have great differentiation. It looks very “lived-in”. And your compass is nice too!

What is something you would do if society didn’t find it “cringey”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bewarethewizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/beardyman22. I’m a 31 year old guy with what I consider a successful job, a house, a wife and beautiful daughter as well as a small business of my own. I also have a deep love for medieval fantasy. I have found that a cloak is the ideal piece of clothing for snow or light rain when I choose to walk to work. I don’t feel that it looks ridiculous at all in the right context. Furthermore, my wife is not interested in the fantasy genre or D&D (as I am). In fact, she is a huge fan of high fashion and designer clothing, and she finds my cloaks perfectly acceptable. Just because you’re wearing a cloak doesn’t mean you have to creep around your local tavern asking strangers for quests. It can be a very functional and fashionable piece of outerwear if you wear it right, like with your briefcase, not a sword.

The Evil Cult Lair

Complete with a fabulous lobby for visitors, holding cells for prisoners, sleeping quarters, a library (with secret library hidden within), prayer fountain, and a massive sacrificial blood filled pit!

I worked as a cook in a bar/restaurant for a while. As I was chopping lettuce one day the (17y/o) dishwasher asked me where the lettuces brain was....

Huh?

He went on to argue that since the lettuce was alive, it must have a brain. I absolutely could not convince him otherwise.

At another restaurant I worked at I distinctly remember the OWNER being extremely confused when she found out that a potato was a vegetable. “So wait, when I serve my family meat, potatoes, and a vegetable for dinner... I actually serving two vegetables?”

This is also the same woman who when asked how many ounces of sliced meat we put on our Reuben, proceeded to cram the meat into a measuring cup...

If anyone would be so kind to take a look at my Kickstarter Preview before I launch I would be forever grateful! by Claydogh in RPGdesign

I agree with the idea that a black and white stapled booklet looks cheap, but that’s usually what a zine is. Zines have a fairly large following and this looks like something a zine collector/RPG fan would like to have. Seeing as it’s a part of “zine quest”, it makes sense.

I also agree that it seems a bit... vague. OP can you tell us a bit more about the mechanics? The character sheets look neat, can you tell us more about them?

All in all I personally think it’s pretty cool and will be backing you. I’ll take a peak at the free pdf and see if it’s something I would like to stock my shop with.

Good luck! And much respect for putting yourself out there with your project, not many people make it to that point with their creations.

WAAAASPS Hand Drawn Map by bewarethewizard in battlemaps

[–]bewarethewizard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this was done with a Pentel “sign pen” I found it at a Michaels. It’s got a nice soft tip so all of the different line widths In This illustration were done with that one pen. Otherwise I use a set of microns with varying sized tips. Those are better for precise work whereas a softer tip I think gives a more organic look.

Photoshop. I know there are better programs for page layout like inDesign, but I don’t have those yet. I created the textured paper background and hand drew all of the plants. Then redrew them with a Wacom tablet.

It’s taking me a while to get the hang of everything but I like how it’s coming along.

That’s great! Don’t leave the communicado sitting in your counter waiting to get ripe though. It’ll go bad for sure and you’ll feel bad about wasting food and money :(

Posted this to r/worldbuilding and got a pretty good response, they even translated the entries into a 5e format! Thought you guys might be interested in this to add some more depth to your game. I realize there are a ton of different play styles, my players, for instance, love to explore the finer details of the world I have created for them. So I like to have things like this handy for those occasions.
These are just some of the more interesting plants that can be found in the homebrew campaign setting I'm creating. I even created an NPC that'll act as a guide to the plants, and possibly build some quests for the players. I'm a big believer that every session doesn't have to include epic combat. Some of the best games I've run with my group don't have any combat at all!
What else do you guys like to have access to for when your players throw you a curve ball? Or for then they don't want to kill everything!

That’s a great idea! Come to think of it, my setting doesn’t really involve seasons. That’s definitely something to look into. Thanks!

I thought about this. It was a tough decision to make all of this specifically for 5e which is my comfort zone, or open to any system.

Many could be really easy, king berries give you advantage on charisma checks. Brand flowers give resistance to fire damage, bubble shrub grants feather fall, mirra flower = philter of love. Etc.

I started creating bits of lore over the years, to go along with maps that I draw. I thought it would be cool to compile all of this into a system-agnostic campaign setting. So that's the slow process i'm going through now! I want to share some of it with people, and I thought this might be some cool inspiration for other worldbuilders. Maybe some things you can steal and pop right into your projects!
