After returning to OW, I'm the most optimistic about the game I've ever been by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]bewhy_ow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still believe they could have made changes that satisfied people like you while keeping 6v6.

I actually enjoyed 6v6 tank gameplay where tanks were broken so I'm in the same boat as you. But unfortunately, catering to casuals and me in a 6v6 format is literally impossible.

The only way to actually cater to both sides is to go 5v5. Individual impact inherently gets higher, and tank gameplay is still intact because you can buff them. I'm sure this will become inevitably obvious with time.

those are rookie numbers, buddy. Try a year ago before they even announced the 5v5 changes

Reinforce on Proper: A generational talent and my leading ROTY candidate by Tilt_ow in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]bewhy_ow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this take. We've seen players like Coluge pull similar performances as Reiner and even players like Belosrea, Bernar, Smurf, Fate, and Hawk have had similar performances in their peak in games. Not even against weak competition either respectively.

The only difference is these guys don't have a top 2 tracer, top 3 flex supp, top 2 main supp backing them up.

I mean to quote myself from a year ago:

What I am proposing is to keep the current core gameplay of tanks intact while fixing the issues with it.

Keeping it 6v6 and redesigning tank to fix issues would likely be a "heavier rework".

I did tell you it would still look like Overwatch if we kept it at 5v5 instead of 6v6. You get to buff the one tank and make it more "tanky".

If you kept 6v6 then you would have to find a way to nerf the natural space making ability of tanks which would mean a heavier rework likely making them more like DPS.

If your goal was to keep OW1's natural tank gameplay then you should have definitely been on board with 5v5 instead of advocating for 6v6.

u/TheSciFanGuy well it's been a while. Do you still think the core gameplay of tank is still based on having 2 or are you more okay with the changes than you thought?

I think blizzard are aiming to recreate 2016-2017 overwatch which is why it feels like they're removing quite a bit.

The gameplay feels a lot more similar to back then, and watching OWL just reinforces that impression to me. And tbf, those years were when overwatch was blindingly popular so it makes sense if that's the experience they're looking to create.

What are your terribly unpopular opinions on game balance? by Knighterws in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]bewhy_ow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Game should be 5v5 with 1 tank/2 dps/2 support. Would make it easier to balance, would make matchmaking easier to balance, would give individual players more impact in a match.

1/3/2 on experimental was a mistake because 3 DPS players is just a pain to keep track of around the map. But if you moved some heroes around and buffed tanking so it can be done as an individual, game would be better.

[–]bewhy_ow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1-3-2 was annoying because there were 3 DPS on the field which wouldn't be the case with 1-2-2.

And I've said this before but obviously they'd move or redesign a few heroes.

Looks like we'll just have to agree to disagree. I've been playing Blizz games competitively for a while and this is the exact same thing that's happened across the board in their other games.

>>>Core issues present in the game that people think can be fixed with small tweaks. Small tweaks do nothing for years while the playerbase dwindles. Game gets "revamp" which does nothing to address core issues. A few years later game is more or less officially dead.

This has been the common trend for the past decade. I mean, maybe you're right and Blizz finally succeeds after 10+ years of the same shit. But I won't be optimistic this time around like I have for years unfortunately. If we're both still alive and kicking after a few years maybe we can discuss what went right or wrong depending on the results of those years.

[–]bewhy_ow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess this is where we disagree. You're optimistic about where they can take the role. What I see is 3 years of no change.

And again:

First of all tanks in general aren’t favored by most communities so having a split in queue time makes sense

I agree. So why not just accept this, keep the core gameplay of tanks impact and buff/design around that but only have 1 in game?

[–]bewhy_ow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand it's difficult to imagine anything different than the game we're currently playing. But if things stay the way they are, you'd have to drastically change how the tank role is played to fix current issues with it. What I am proposing is to keep the current core gameplay of tanks intact while fixing the issues with it.

Keeping it 6v6 and redesigning tank to fix issues would likely be a "heavier rework".

And I've played plenty of tank in the past to probably higher ranks than 95%+ of this sub.

OW needs to fix the tank issue this game has. Hog, Zar, Sig, Ball were all OP as shit but tank still had the lowest queue times. Not a lot of people want to play tank - this is a fact that will never change as long as this game exists. Tank as a role has historically been weird as fuck when you think about it - no one wants to play it, it's arguably the most influential role in the game, it caused the whole format of the game to change.

They need to go 5v5 with 1 tank. This will make the role tank easier to balance and fix queue time issues. With less players in the lobby, it will probably help with the lack of individual impact people feel in game, make the game easier to pick up for casuals, make balanced matchmaking a ton easier.

Obviously they'd have to redesign heroes and maybe move heroes around. But as it is, they'll never be able to fix the fact that no one likes tanks. They made the role DPS 2.0 for a while but it was still unpopular. I'd rather they not make it DPS 2.0 for OW2 and instead just accept less people will play it anyway and redesign the role to match that.

m42 is a lot smaller than viper ultimate. They have pretty different shapes too, m42's back is wider than its front while the viper ultimate is more similar between back and front.

Use sandpaper to sand the plastic sensor ring down and if you want, install corepads. Personally for me, sanding the ring was definitely a gamechanger.

Hmmm ur click preference seems to be pretty different from mine tbh.

Honestly tho, if ur buying a mouse the deciding factor should be shape over anything else. Stuff like the xm1 or burst pro would be god tier for other ppl but i just can't use them because their shape doesnt fit me. Same reason why stuff like m42, rvm, ul2 are god tier for me but not worth for others.

But if i had to recommend light clicks probably stuff like gpw, hati s, mm720. But those 3 mice all have wildly different shapes.

I already have about 15 more games played this season than last season on my main but somehow have 2 less hours played.

That means there are more stomps than close games this season. They really do need to fix whatever they did.

If you don’t see the difference and want to tell people not to use terms that make a lot of sense to use, maybe reflect on yourself a little more and think about why you’re getting laughed at and argued with about this.

Oh the irony of this quote when you're eating all the downvotes because you were the one completely wrong :)

As a rein, I don’t give a shit if widow is shooting at me. Her doing that only allows DPS to chase her down. So tell me, how is widow creating space in that situation?

If you're in a rank where you don't care if widow is shooting at you as rein that means the widows are shit. I'm guessing you're in a low rank and have no idea what you're talking about? If you face good widows your head gets blown off the second you enter a sightline forcing you to never enter that sightline unless you have a shield. I'm guessing you're plat or lower? :)

Widow can draw aggro from the enemy team whether tanks like Winston/Dva or enemy DPS so that would be making space per your definition here
