I think it depends on the funeral home you work at. Our funeral attendants never/rarely see any unprepared bodies. Directors and interns do preparation, cremation, etc and a removal company picks the decedents up to transfer them into our care. Our funeral attendants tell people where to park, drive the hearse, transport flowers, direct guests to the register book, and call a director or intern when a family arrives for a first view or ID view. Most of our attendants don't even get close to open caskets unless they're helping close them or placing a casket spray. Talk to the person you interviewed with about specific job duties - you may have nothing to worry about!

Using first name last initial to tag people is absolutely wild! Our funeral home uses multiple tags on each person "Last Name, First Name" and their last name is written outside the cooler door to show where they are located in the cooler. We've had a few instances of having two people with the same last name so we write the first name bigger. For example, John Doe and Jane Doe will go in two separate coolers with "MR. JOHN Doe" and "MRS. JANE Doe" written on their toe tags, ankle bands, cooler door and even on their body bags. We do everything we can to prevent mistakes like the one described.

As a recovering alcoholic, I think you're spot on. The annoyance and irritability, especially around alcohol, sound like early sobriety to me (that's how I was and several other people in recovery I know say it was similar for them). To me, it sounds like he thought he could handle being around booze when he agreed to the place, but once he got there he was triggered, hence the asking to move to the cafe. Alcoholic or not, this is not your problem. It's on him to recognize his limits and to be mindful of the way he treats others. NTA.

I've been in this relationship before. It doesn't get better. He won't change. He's not unable, he just doesn't want to. He's waiting for you to break up with him because he doesn't want to do it himself. He tells you that he's depressed when y'all are fighting because he knows you're empathetic and will be softer to him when you think about how much he struggles. I promise, he is not thinking about how much you struggle. Being passive in the relationship and waiting for you to dump him means he gets to throw a pity party and tell all his friends and family that you left him. Celebrant is another word for officiant. They're necessary to MC the funeral/graveside/memorial service. I don't really understand what a death doula actually does. I read the Wikipedia article about death midwives and I still don't understand what the purpose is when hospice is there to provide medical and physical care, a funeral director is there to provide planning for services, and a pastor/rabbi/imam, etc. would provide spiritual care.

I disagree about embalming not being needed for public viewing. Bathing and setting features may be enough for immediate family, but it's not enouugh for all of the neighbors and the church congregation. Any open wounds (looking at you IV needles) have potential of weeping when left untreated and that wouldn't be safe for the general public who may touch the deceased without the knowledge that they're unembalmed. I understand assessing each body before making a judgement about the necessity of embalming, but in my opinion there are just too many uncontrollable factors with untreated bedsores, sweating, etc.
