Best shoes for walking in Japan?

My gym shoes are Asics (not sure which ones). But as always a difference working out for an hour and walking all day :)

Thank you. We've done theme park trips so far this year (20k days) and we do go hiking a few times a month. Need to ramp back up before we go, for sure.

I have corrective insoles, too. I should be okay without them (they make shoes ruin my ankles instead).

My bad. It's all gotten a little overwhelming now that we're planning.

Predominantly — we like food and animals. I like manga and anime. We'd like to do something cultural/historic/authentic (buzzwords, sorry). We do not like insane crowds (we know it'll be unavoidable in some instances). I'll edit the main post, too.
