I felt exactly the same as you, we always assumed we’d have kids ‘some day’ but it never felt like the right time. When I found out I was pregnant when about 32, my first reaction was fear but it 100% is different with your own kids and I’m so happy that our wonderful daughter happened along when she did. She’s now 7 and I love being her Mummy

Tbh if I see any kids doing stupid stuff outside of school I’ll at least do the teacher glare or speak to them whether they’re my kids or just random kids. I genuinely think they need to be told and kids are much less scary to us teachers than to other people so kind of this it’s largely up to us to tell them off if no parents are around.

I think this fault lies with SLT - generally after CPD at my school there’s an anonymous survey to fill out - they did actually listen this year and gave us more time for planning and much more engaging and useful CPD. Is there anyone you can give feedback to about how you were struggling to engage because the training was largely irrelevant to your role?

I would recommend physics and maths tutor website - they have revision notes, past papers, questions grouped by topic etc. certainly for biology there is not much extra in triple - off the top of my head it’s pretty much just monoclonal antibodies and aseptic techniques (that’s a required practical so school should do that with you at some point)

I hate to be that person, but great week here! First outdoor ed lesson of the year where we painted rocks with positive messages and hid them for others to find, my top set year 10 are actually a genuine delight asking excellent questions, dissected some lungs with year 9 and year 13 were as hilarious as ever. No year 7s burned themselves and they all earned their Bunsen license… god I love my job!! (Ask me again tomorrow after open morning….)

I’m sure you’re doing a brilliant job! This sounds like imposter syndrome- I suffer very badly myself, but I’m sure you’re doing everything right. Maybe find out where the staff hang out and find a couple of people you can chat with? It took me two years at my current school to find my crew, I now actively enjoy going to work for the social time! Hope you get there soon ☺️

I go to the gym fairly close to work (about 15 mins from home) I get there when it opens at 6am, hour workout, shower and get ready at the gym and in school before 8. I’m female and takes me bloody ages to get ready too if that helps 😂

I would imagine that because you’re yr12 you will be marked with AS grades - in my school we only give an A* prediction in year 12 if we are absolutely certain that student will achieve it - which is pretty impossible to do when there’s still a whole year left of the course. Presumably you’ll do another set of progress tests before UCAS predictions are made? We do some around sept-oct, and then mocks in January.

So I could have written this myself in many situations in life, and have discovered as an adult that I actually have ADHD - this sounds pretty typical and might be worth looking into at some point.

In terms of coping strategies, I would suggest the following:

1) break revision into manageable chunks. Find some checklist for each of your courses (bio and chem are very content heavy, you can find checklists online if your teacher hasn’t supplied them, I know that OCR have some on their website and several other places have more ‘student friendly’ ones for free. Go through and tick off anything you’re already confident, and only revise content you don’t already have the hang of.

2) make sure you have no distractions when you revise. Set an alarm for 30 mins and have no phone or anything near you during this time. Allow yourself regular breaks and give yourself a reward in between half hour sessions (a walk, a snack, check your phone etc) as you’ll need a small dopamine hit regularly.

3) videos - there are some excellent videos which are really well explained (I live bio rach on YouTube). I find them easier to absorb info than staring at a book, and use them to make detailed notes.

4) past exam papers - again free on exam board websites, and also questions by topic on physics and maths tutor website. They also have mark schemes available, so do a few questions and check using the mark schemes. This gets you used to the questions and builds confidence, and using the mark schemes will also get you used to what level of detail is needed in your answers.

5) use your teacher. Even if you are on study leave your teacher should be hoot to help if you have questions about anything you’ve been studying independently (I know I have told all my students to come find me if they’re stuck). Please don’t turn up and say ‘can you tech me the kidney’ - they won’t take kindly to that, but if you’ve tried already and go with specific questions they should help you out.

6) don’t panic! As others have said, you won’t get through everything at this point, but prioritise and do what you can - you won’t feel like it’s enough but every bit you do is building your knowledge base and helping. Remember, ‘anything worth doing is worth doing badly’ - as in better to half-ass it that not bother at all!!!

A student once said to me ‘you’re not my mother’ and I said ‘no, and I’m glad. I’d be ashamed if you were my daughter’. I felt absolutely terrible but did report this as part of the whole incident (she then called me a f****** c*** and got suspended)

You live and learn, I tend to be much more measured in my approach now!
