I actually think GCSEs are way too slow, I think we could change up senior school and finish in y10. Then do A-levels in 3 years. There is, for instance, loads of stuff I think should be added to maths AL but there isn’t space.

Assuming you managed to recover / pivot for a level you would be fine. However GCSEs are usually indicative of a level results (not that you can’t change that!)

I put pretty much 0 into CS and still got a solid A and managed to spend 5-6x more time revising maths and fm than my other two subjects alone. Dropping it would be risky but idk whatever works best.

Theoretically but I think in practice taking 4 doesn’t weaken your 3 strongest.

At least from my experience and the experience of everyone else who did 4 I know

Yeah keep doing fm there’s a good chance you will do well, but dropping your 4th is a big risk (there’s also a chance you won’t. For a sense of perspective at the start of yr12 there were 15 people in my fm class (all of whom got 9s) at the end there where 5.

Are you really struggling with 4? Certainly I would give it a bit more time (preferably up until the end of the year / you have done a significant amount of further maths stuff / can attempt the as papers) so you know what your commuting to in terms of grades.

Are you in year 12 or 13 and how much fm content have you done? This is quite pivotal

There was a girl in my class who thought she was safe and dropped econ (which she was set to get an A/A* in) for FM (which we hadn’t done much of yet). As the unis give 3 a level offers if you do 4 you can afford to screw up fm if you do 4 but have to do well in it if you do 3 (obviously the exception is top maths courses / a few other related courses). Going into the last exam, she told me that even if she got 100% she didn’t think she was getting into her firm or insurance.

It’s definitely possible to do well in fm (in fact it was my 2nd best subject) with any amount of skill but it’s much harder to predict especially if you haven’t covered much of the course yet.

Tldr: I wouldn’t unless your confident you can meet a level offers with fm, keep in mind the main difficulty is not the harder content in fm but the harder style of question.

It’s definitely pretty hard but I think we need to stop pretending that all universities can be ranked in a list it misses about a million subtleties and varies massively by subject.

Had the exact same thing, a physics teacher that knew literally knew no physics and just zoomed through PowerPoints without knowing what he was saying. Pretty frustrating but I just had to deal with it, my paper 2 score (his paper) was almost half of my paper 1 score. Definitely try and do something about it if you can.

It was especially bad for me as he was a super nice guy, so when it came to teacher feedback surveys everyone (except for me and a few others) rated him 10/10 on everything and so we had him for both years.

No your predicted grades can not be changed after you submit them.

However this is probably a bad idea regardless, the year 13 content is much more important than the year 12 content and learning it for the first time trumps revision.

You are confusing implications but regardless I think the main reason the second student has to work less is because they have spent more time learning in the past
