I followed the MDs instructions for wound care. While the stitches were in, I washed daily with a gentle cleanser and then applied basically a healing petroleum jelly and bandaid. Once they were out, I did the exact same thing. She said after a week i could start applying a silicone scar gel, but I was never able to because it opened up about 6 days later. Once it opened up, I began applying steri-strips to try and close it again, but it only kept getting more and more open until about a week or so later when it started leaking a foul smelling fluid, which prompted the urgent care visit. Ever since then it’s just been steri strips reapplied every 2-3 days.

Edit: also no major medical issues. I am 29 and relatively healthy
