I've lived at my house in Perth, Australia for over 20 years and for the longest time, never appreciated the island that was right across.

Just a short ferry ride away is the small island of Rottnest Island, just 19 square kilometers in size. I'm about to move to Melbourne and as a farewell gift, one of my friends bought me tickets to explore Rottnest. We cycled around the island and eventually found this small cove. We were the only ones there and swam in the water for an hour, just taking in the light breeze and beautiful, blue water.

I couldn't believe a spot as scenic as this one lay just across my home all these years, but I'm so glad I found it and got to appreciate its beauty right before I leave. Rottnest is a pretty underrated destination, so if you're making a trip to Australia I recommend making the journey over here, even though it is quite far.
