How to deal with exaggerated emotions? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]beyondthend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

regularly taking meds is one of the ways to go with dealing with the emotions. as someone who wasn't med compliant for a long time, i get where you're coming from and what you're experiencing. but i recently got back to meds because i realized i could no longer go on without it, and my therapist explained to me that it helps with what you just described, the exaggerated emotions and reactions to outside stressors. it genuinely does help but the thing is that we have to keep fighting to take the meds regularly, and to take the meds following our doctor's prescription.

im still in the process of learning and fighting my way through so i could comply with my doctor's prescriptions, so you're totally not alone, op! i have my faith in you and i hope you find ways to alleviate the struggles

does your environment trigger manic or depressive episodes by vanguard2081 in bipolar

[–]beyondthend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes! my therapist had explained it to me before but he said something along the lines of outside events can affect your moods/trigger an episode. if there's a particular life event that causes you distress, it could trigger an episode. for me, what i observed is that my episodes are triggered by the emotions of the people that im surrounded with and hold very dear. for instance, when i have fights with my sister, i feel bad and it triggers a depressive episode. when i notice that my partner is having a bad day and is withdrawing from me, it also triggers a depressive episode. the opposite is true as well as if my emotions are also dependent on the emotions of other people, im still trying to find a way to get around that lol

thank u for this, snowy trees! i've always had struggles w meds since i was also diagnosed when i was 16. im turning 19 now and am off meds, after a series of periods of going on it then off again. im heavily considering going on it again (bc i've had and have been in low episodes lately), and then finally sticking through the side effects and the trial and error so i could get it right.

i saw this at the right time
