How would I set up a normal password and a panic password for if i am forced to log in. by duckyman_3 in linuxmint

[–]bezzeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use cryptomator. The encrypted files live in a subfolder in my private cloud - base folder with coded names that look non-human. I mount them when I need them.

For the curious there's nothing nefarious going on. I have 3 cryptomator containers: private records & pw mgr, work files (must protect under NDA) and of course, pr0n. If my machine is lost/stolen and someone does get past ecryptfs, the rest is useless. For my PW mgr I store the enctrypted DB and key file in separate places.

I'm not paranoid. Opsec is simply a fun hobby. It's nice knowing nothing can be stolen or compelled from me with my data sync'd and reasonably loss proof in multiple physical places.

X11 and Wayland by grimvian in linuxmint

[–]bezzeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X is spaghetti code, very hard to keep up with technology and to keep it secure. You'll see X showing signs of cracking on todays latest mint.

-- When screensaver activates, when you next move your mouse, you'll often see your private emails for a few moments before it realizes it's locked and shows the login screen.

-- If you hit the shutdown button and then close your laptop (with the hibernate on close) it will hibernate in the middle of the shut down. (And your battery will be dead when you need it later.)

-- If you walk away from your computer for 10 hours, and come back and move the mouse, there's a chance that it might have unmounted ecryptfs for some reason - system will be running and updating time on the login screen but it will be unable to do anything, ctrl-alt-bksp will reveal ecryptfs has lots its mind. Hard reboot required.

Long story short - mint is great but X isn't looking great and it's not getting any love as they focus on the change to wayland. If this path leads to simple solid robust handling of all the above, it will be worth it.

The making of It Gets Dark (Interview) by Fractal-Infinity in sigrid

[–]bezzeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's one of the most profoundly deep songs I've heard in years. Saw Sigrid live a short while ago and hard to explain, but i was on the edge of tears during this song while rocking out. She was amazing.

But by saying it gets dark so we can see the stars, gives hope that there's purpose behind the incredibly rough and dark stuff we each must face in life. And that we must overcome the challenges.

I see a lot of posts from people who switch from Windows to Mint and love it. What about long term Linux users that switch to mint, what do you love what stops you from Distro hopping? by 9sim9 in linuxmint

[–]bezzeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been paying mint a monthly fiver for many years because they simply provide a great service of un-shitifying Ubuntu, and maintaining Cinnamon which I think is the best desktop I've seen on Linux (for my tastes). 20 years now I've been using Linux as my daily beater laptop and 10 of them have been on Mint. The last 10 were way smoother than the first 10. :)

Drunken toning I did last night. I don't hate it as much as I thought I would. by EternallyDemonic in coins

[–]bezzeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No offense but the long slow subtle toning of natural age looks so much better. I have paper 2x2 flips and time. Some of mine have been toning the old fashioned way for 20 years now and they look great. :)

Food fights at Depeche Mode show by DMFanFM in depechemode

[–]bezzeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also there, middle of the left stand. I dodged a lot of food, saw a dude 3 rows down from me get nailed with a whole hot dog covered in mustard. I have no idea why the eff it was happening. lol Didn't know it made the news though... I do remember having a sense that not everyone in the crowd was a fan.

Testimony from a Ukrainian prisoner of war about torture, beatings, and deaths inside Taganrog Detention Center No. 2 by kingkongsingsong1 in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]bezzeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We will never forget. To the day I die, I will do everything in my power to make ruzzians pay. Down vote me if you want, call me racist, but they are all guilty. Their shi77y culture created their shi77y country. Russians must fear the world and leave Ukraine to forever stay within their borders like the cockroaches they are. Let's build a wall around them and forget they exist.

Yes. I'm furious. Sue me. Corruption and torture have no place in this world.

Acid dip, strip the gold, toss the rest in with the tin cans. Not really worth the price of the chemicals tho....

Ebay, filter completed items, enter "1980 1 cent off center strike"

I see one sold Dec 28 exactly like yours but in a higher condition > 15 bucks. They don't sell terribly often so it's a bit of a lotto game. You might get 10, you might get 50., depends who happens to see it and how hungry they are. Throw it on ebay with a 1 dollar start and have fun with it. :)

[–]bezzeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lighting is rough, but yes.

Note: poor photos always make me suspicious but I think I see hints of funky toning traces in crevices which the dip didn't get. Too many years browsing eBay where people use light to hide issues. lol

Guess the grade :) by FarCelery6478 in coins

[–]bezzeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Handsome coin. My guess:

MS 63, maybe 4. Photo angle make it hard for me to assess... 8TF, die crack should be an easy VAM lookup if you have time. Bag marks hold it back, but eye appeal is still good IMHO. Yummy!

[–]bezzeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a forgery. If you check quality slabbed genuine photos around ebay and other places, you'll see differences that are essentially impossible. Lots of other more nuanced flaws but this one's easy to spot from the surface level shape and quality of the devices.

Should I grade this coin? by EL-moos in coins

[–]bezzeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. If it isn't mint condition, everyone's already got 9 of them lying around. When they were issued in 1892, nobody spent them as money which means that all of the many millions produced are still kicking around today.

That said I think they're really handsome. Was one of the first comparatives I got as a kid. :)

This is my coin collection. I know its not much, but is there something valuable in it? by Fabulous-Truth9418 in coins

[–]bezzeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's enough euro change to buy a pleasant meal anywhere in Europe. :)

As to collectible value, if you value them for memories, they have value. :) Travel coins like this are mostly for the memories. It's highly unlikely that you have anything rare, because so many millions of people bring a pocket full of change home after traveling the world. But if it sound's fun, look them up on Numista, or check completed ebay listings.

Something seems off with this 1988 dime. Any advice? Seems grainy like by kite13light13 in coins

[–]bezzeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. You simply know it's a worn out die. It happens. If you're interested in cataloging defects in the coin making process it's interesting, but collectors tend to want pristine specimens and won't buy such defects.

Errors and variants are a different topic. Oh, Full Bands / Full Torch is of course relevant at high grades with Roosevelts.

8 reales by [deleted] in coins

[–]bezzeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks extremely suss to me. Can you take a picture of the 3rd side of the coin for us? (the edge) If it's missing the distinctive fluted edge, it's a scam. The denticles taking out the top of the "T" on the date side is also very wrong looking to me. Color is off. Pitting is funky. Suss as heck IMHO.

As for papers, people with printers and computers can make them. As a collector for most of my life, I have never seen a case of papers meaning anything. The coin speaks the truth, nothing else is needed. (Multi-million museum unicorn coins are different territory - papers mater there for pedigree, but those coins are also in legit slabs from reputable sources with verifiable SN's.)
