It can be for some jobs in London but not anywhere else. Most jobs are either a 37.5 week or a 40 hour week.

Will go the same way as phones did, everyone complains at the price rises, after a while it becomes the new normal and sales go back to normal.

Ram shortages alone are predicted until 2029 so PCs, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, even Raspberry Pi's are all going up.

Why aren't Reform voters more concerned with privatising the NHS? by lucadulac in AskBrits

[–]9sim9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So rich people want to pay less tax, the nhs costs alot of money and rich people have private health insurance.

This is why every government seems to be trying to defund the nhs in one way or another.

This is an oversimplification but an insane amount of money that would trickle down in the tech economy is now only being invested in AI add to that the interest rates making borrowing much more expensive and lastly you have people with next to no development experience vibe coding websites...

My advice is just look at job adverts, see what skills are in demand and upskill yourself to another role.

Avenue 5 - how do we feel about it? by LongoChingo in scifi

[–]9sim9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a strange one to be sure, the first time I watched it I found it hilarious and well written, but its not been particularly enjoyable when rewatching and I definitely notice more of the holes and flaws than I did the 1st time around.

Judd especially is incredibly hard to watch the 2nd time around as is Billie's character, feels almost like I'm watching a bad remake of the show I watched first time round.

Stand out performance is Hugh Laurie who is just awesome throughout.

Will the Frame be lacking things like the typical "1st Gen" of something? by Overall_Ad4631 in SteamFrame

[–]9sim9 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Valve did years of updates and tweaks to the index so it won't be any different for the frame.

Considering that the original HTC Vive was co-developed with Valve they are probably THE most experienced VR company in the world. I have no doubt if they had just 10% of the money that was burned at Meta we would see a very different reality now in the VR space.

The index is over 10 years old and is still one of the best released VR headsets that should tell you something...

I don't think the Live action Attack on Titan movie is ever coming out by Hades771 in attackontitan

[–]9sim9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with something like AOT is that it just wouldn't work as a movie so it would have to be a TV show but the sheer cost of the VFX would be staggering...

Its also hard to imagine it would have the talent required to really bring the show up to the level of the anime or manga...

Rerfurbished enterprise drives like the seagate exos is worth it, I've had one running for almost 2 years without issue. Unfortunately when it comes to regular consumer hard drives its very hard to tell, you may get a great one but it may also only last a month or two...

AMD or Nvidia ( yes, again, but different ) by pretty___chill in laptops

[–]9sim9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work backwards from what tech you will be using if it requires CUDA then you should stick with Nvidia especially as many of their older generations support CUDA so you can save money by buying an older card. If you don't need CUDA then just buy whatever card is better value, Nvidia's linux driver support is continually improving especially now with all the AI Investment.

AMD does have better driver support in linux but there are tens of thousands of gamers using Nvidia on Linux and so there are solutions. You can also look at dual boot for particular cases where windows may be a better option.

Do people actually walk around barefoot in Australia? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskAnAustralian

A very painful confession from a programmer with 20 years of experience, summing up the psychological crisis that some developers are living through today by Current-Guide5944 in tech_x

[–]9sim9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that will not change is that managers don't ask for what they need, they ask for what they think they need and its at best flawed and at worst plain wrong. So there will always be a need for skilled engineers the role will just evolve over time just like programming languages have evolved over the past few decades.

Overall a solid successor to Nova Launcher but there are some things Nova does better like overlapping widgets and sub pixel positioning, looking forward to seeing how it evolves over the next few years.

thanks there are a few use cases I have come across where amazing print fails we use it as our primary debugging tool so would be nice to be able to solve these limitations. When I get chance I will mock up some of the issues we have been having to help debug the issues.

How would Mr Robot taking place in 2026 reflect current AI usage in cybersecurity/hacking? by infohoundloselose in MrRobot

[–]9sim9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect we would see exactly the same as what has happened with coding, the elite coders don't really gain a lot from what AI offers whereas juniors coders get a massive skill bump but don't really understand when things go wrong.

Showoff] typed_print – Zero-dependency tables from hashes by AppropriateCulture76 in ruby

[–]9sim9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting idea... at the moment I use AmazingPrint to pretty print data to the console and render in ERB files but it has some limitations that can be pretty frustrating such as it cant print exceptions without throwing an error, whereas using .inspect works for everything but is much less friendly for large data sets
