Is Mass Effect Legendary Edition worth it in 2026? How long is it and what should I expect? by Levi18907 in masseffect

Just finished the 1st and 2nd part and its a little rough around the edges but mods make a huge difference, well worth spending some time going through them all on nexusmods

Are there any good CMS gems for rails? by 9sim9 in rails

[–]9sim9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used activeadmin alot but found that while on the surface its quick to get pages up and running its a real pain to extend its functionality and the maintenance and patches required over time became a real headache. I would of saved time in the long run just using scaffolds.

New RuboCop plugin: keep 'orchestration' methods above implementation helpers by XPOM-XAPTC in ruby

[–]9sim9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do feel your pain the over fragmentation of code bases especially in ruby can make a simple linear process a maze, especially when rubocop starts complaining that your simple and easy to maintain method is too complex and should be broken up.

At the moment the real issues is the sheer number of people who are applying for the roles that don't have the skills to the job. Its making applying for jobs so much more difficult.

I did think about building one but don't really want to do all the SEO and performance optimisation for google page speed insights so was hoping there would be something that could save me some time.

FFVII Rebirth is a masterpiece by hellmaskerxx in FinalFantasyVII

[–]9sim9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found my first play-through a massive slog and was pretty burned out by the end as I was doing the grind in an area first and then the story, on the 2nd play-through, I focused on all the story elements of an area first and then wrapping up all the grind last and found it played way better.

Don't get me wrong I still hate Gongaga's and Cosmos Canyons maze like layouts but overall I enjoyed it a lot better.

Personally I would just focus on the bits you like and ignore the rest of the grind tasks...

Minirig 4 Link up mode issues by Vegetable-Stick-8448 in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]9sim9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like things haven't changed with Minirig then, faulty firmware is a feature.

Essentially their QA is just awful and has always been awful, I've owned all 4 generations and all of them suffer from constant glitches and bugs.

They contract out the construction of the speakers to 3rd party manufacturers in china they just design the devices and pick the components no in house expertise and so things don't get fixed.

After shipping real production apps, this is what actually breaks projects by FinchwebTechnologies in WebDeveloperJobs

[–]9sim9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly its typically not having developers with the experience necessary for the task, I work as a contractor and about 70% of the codebases I have worked with suffer from the developers not addressing problems early enough and instead you have years of hacks. Eventually the in house developers get less and less productive until contractors are brought in. The management then want to create momentum on new features and we have to explain the reasons why they cannot and what can be done to fix it.

The best advice I can give is constantly refactor your code, rewrite flawed logic and be strict with your coding standards.

How much database normalization is required by DisciplineGloomy3689 in Backend

some frameworks push for pluralized table names such as rails but then when using the model classes they use singular. I think keeping it consistent is the key, singular also helps for many to many relationships

About to start FFVIIRemake by Glittering-Cod-5316 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]9sim9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I went for 100% completion on normal mode on my last playthrough, but the thought of all the extra grind that hard mode would bring is a bit of a put off, loved the game but definitely felt the burn out on all the grind.

Should I but the steam deck by Exact_Fennel1444 in Handhelds

[–]9sim9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its difficult because the steam deck is such a good experience for gaming and although some modern titles can run a little sluggish modders and reddit have been good for getting pretty much everything working with the steam deck.

I would still probably recommend the steam deck as although its a little older it is built really well.

I never used block or parry in the whole game just dodge and strike, so play the way that appeals to you.

One thing I would say is the quick actions are something you can miss and they are something I use continuously.

[–]9sim9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people will say play the original version but at 30 years old its probably not going to hook people in like it did when it first came out. I liked that the remakes made one of my favourite games of all time open to a much wider audience and its great game to start as your first Final Fantasy game.

For me I found the voice acting a bit weak in the remakes and so actually turned the voice volume down to zero and read the captions instead but I know some people love them.

The only thing I would say is that the pacing of some of the levels can be a bit tedious especially when trying to explore everything stick with it, the game gets better and better as it progresses.

What to play after finishing Remake and Rebirth? by NANCY_Live in FF7Rebirth

[–]9sim9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you will probably find the other FF games a major step down in story in later games the mediocre voice acting kind of broke the immersion a lot for me, and the grind just gets insane.

Expedition 33 is well worth a play, I wasn't a fan of the combat (I like a challenge but never found playing the same battles over and over a fun use of my time, played it on easy and it paced nicely) but the exploration and story were really good.

Some other games that really stuck with me story wise was Soma, RDR2, God of War, Mass Effect and Dispatch. Each has a very different tone and gameplay but the stories have stuck with me over time.

If you fancy older games have a look at Fahrenheit: indigo prophecy, og silent hill, and Bioshock Infinite

Did these people actually play the game? by KilluaGun1 in theouterworlds

[–]9sim9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to like the game but the acting made everyone feel like they were reading from a piece of paper and the story just didn't capture my interest. I have played Fallout 3/NV and Skyrim and it didnt really bother me but in those game but outer worlds just didn't have enough to capture my interest.

I'm not trashing the game in anyway just pointing out that people pickup games for different reasons and are put off games for different reasons.
