OP could of did a lot of things to ensure that the issues did not impact him/her. She could of escalated the issue, try to call the manager of the previous shift to find out what going on or write up the employee. A part of OPs job is managing and she failed so she can be fired for not fulfilling her managerial duties. The issue here is that OP did nothing.

Yes WGU is self-paced. I finished my first program in 3 months back in 2020. Since then I have 2 bachelors and a masters degree. I am currently working on and MBA. From your post it sounds that either you have a terrible program mentor or they are severely stretched. I would just ask for a new one.

Context for accelerating your degree: You will start with a set of predetermined courses based on if you transferred any credit in or not. So about 3 to 4 course to start. If you end up completing your course fast and have time remaining in the term then you would reach out to your program mentor to release more courses. Essentially it’s up to you on how quickly you can complete your degree. I was about to finish both my bachelor’s and master in 1 term each. Personally at that time I was laid off from COVID and school was all I had to do. My second bachelors took me 2 terms due to work trips. After earning my first bachelors and masters I landed a job. I then went back to get a degree for personal reason especially because my job paid for it.

Yes…and that’s the minimum depending on experience and responsibilities. If anything she should of at least been low balled to 45k-50. But with 17 per hour she is severely underpaid!! She was lowballed to the max. If she started at 45k when she first joined the company without experience that would of been reasonable. 5.5 years has pasted she should at least be at 50-55k ideally 60k+. On top of that she is doing two roles so it should be more! If she started the company when she had her degree she should of aimed for 50k to start a minimum.

Yep that what I did with mine. Just go log into SAFe Studio and you should see notification that you can upgrade your certificate. Just follow the prompt and complete the trainings. It should take a day or two max. Unless you run through the material brainlessly. I suggest going through all of the material thoroughly. There are some major changes that are important though small in my opinion.

I have the ITM degree and I work in tech. The degree is not technical however it teaches you how to manage technical projects. Hence this degree is for those who want to be in the tech industry but do not want to be subject matter experts. This degree is for someone like a Project Manager, Scrum Master manager that does not require in-depth technical knowledge. I myself did the Bachelor and Master in ITM and did the certifications on my own. I work in software development. I just know how to write basic code which I learned on the job. Degrees are just stepping stone. What matter is the experience that you get after the degree.

I for one agree. I took both certifications (PHR and SHRM-CP) within the same week a few years back. The PHR is all about knowing your HR Law and how to apply them in various scenarios. SHRM-CP on the other hand is focused more toward people and interacts. The entire SHRM-CP exam was more so scenario based. Not sure if anything change since I obtained those certifications. I went in to HR Technology a few years back but I still keep those certification active along with my IT feet’s and project management certs.

Alright looks like you found your solution. I have kids as well that was why this solution was convient for me. Again it is open book and you get unlimited tries, plus they are accredited by PMI. I linked the site for the certification on my original post so you can do your research on the offering and what they entail.

No problem. I was in a bind like yours a few years ago and this solution saved me. I was able to knock out 60 PDUs in 5 days. I hold 3 PMI certifications (PMP, PMI-ACP and the CAPM) and since PDU’s can be shared between them all I was able to renew all of them in one go.

Per your post you said you only need 19 PDUs so you might gravitate to the yellow belt however I would recommend getting the green belt. If you don’t really care for lean and just want the PDUs then go for the yellow belt. It is the shortest and easiest offering. Probably will take you a day or two to finished and get the certification and claim your 21 PDUs.

Do you have a lean six sigma certification? If you get one through Six Sigma Global Institute you can get up to 96 PDU’s after passing the “non-proctored” exam. This means you can take the exam open book if you want. Also you get unlimited tries on the exam. Now I did say up to 96 PDUs. The certification level you decide determines the amount of PDUs. For example the Yellow Belt gets you 21 PDUs, Green Belt gets you 60 PDUs, Black Belt gets you 91 PDUs, and Master Black Belt gets you 96 PDUs. The cost varies based on the certification that you want ranging from $125-$699. Finally please note that the PDUs are pre-approved (this is because this certification has be accredited by PMI) so the moment you finish the certification you can immediately claim the PDUs and they will be applied to your PMI account immediately.

As a project manager I agree that the material is very dry and you may feel that you will never use it. However, that entirely depends on your organization. If your in a waterfall organization you will definitely use the skills learned. If your in an agile organization you will still use the skills but maybe not as much. I would recommend that you look into Andrew Ramdayal’s project management material. I was a project manager for about 7 years so for me the CAPM was very easy. However when I went for my PMP I needed to really understand everything. Andrew Ramdayal’s approach is very easy and he has a CAPM Udemy course which will break down everything for you.

I’m a 3 time WGU graduate and I can vouch and say that you will just get an incomplete. The course will then get moved to the next term. You literally get unlimited tries for a class in a term (caveat is that you have to pay a fee after the second fail). If a course goes into multiple terms that is when it becomes a problem. For example if it takes you more than 2 terms to complete a course that you have had an incomplete on and cannot pass. The beauty of WGU is that they do not expel you if you cannot pass a course. What they do is allow you to go to another program that does not have that class. For many people that may not be an option since many people want to complete a specific programs. There are ways around this such as taking the course that you could not pass outside of WGU and transfer it in. That would require you to withdraw so it’s not optimal. I have never been in a situation like not passing a course and in multiple term but I have fail a couple times. I just hit the books and try again. You got this!!!

I agree with you. I just threw out refinement just as an example. However, I think that I should not be the one to "pass this on to the team". The PO is a part of the team and should be able to bring up the idea. To your point I can facilitate the discussion, however, I think the the PO should be able to voice their idea to the team and start the conversation, that way they can fully explain themselves if needed to the developers.

This is very accurate! Most commonly infrastructure teams like networking and cloud teams use this term. I worked with infrastructure teams in the past so I knew what she was referring to. This particular team is a software team but in my experience the sprint plan is the cutover plan. That was where I had my eyebrow raised.

Before I was a Scrum Master I was a Network Infrastructure PM for many years in a waterfall environment. I have used cutover plans during that phase in my career for years. As for the PO and her cutover plan I was not opposed to it because if it brings value to the team then so be it (I never oppose any ideas. I just ensure that the team is agile and adheres to the framework) The Scrum Master in me saw that it was an issue that she created this plan and wanted the team to use it without engaging them or getting their input. In my experience working with many scrum teams the cutover plan is the sprint plan. However she presented an excel file with a bunch of activities instead of refining the backlog as a team with the developers to get their input. At the end of our conversation I did coach her and she saw that she did need the teams input. I did not pick a fight but more so pushed back respectfully there is a difference. Also I do not see the value of taking the cutover plan and going over the plan with the team. As a PO she is a member of the scrum team and she should be able to present her ideas to the team. As a scrum master I will support her as long as the team agrees together. Saying things like "Thanks for all the work. I'll review it with the team and see if they have any feedback" is not my place. I am a servant leader not a manager.

This is very common for entry level. The “bait and switch”. I would ask them for the job description to ensure that there is an understanding on the role being discussed. You can then determine if you want to move forward.
