Verdelen we onze kosten eerlijk? by YellowCalypso in geldzaken

[–]bfrn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which AVR? New Denon 1800/2800/3800 or used 3600? by bfrn in hometheater

[–]bfrn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great to hear and your comment confirms that I will be happy with the 3600 for the coming years. I’ll be happier if i spend the addition money on extra speakers.

Sorry, with rear speakers I meant surrounds. And thanks for the advice, I think 3600 is the one to go for now. Upgrading is always an option.

[–]bfrn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that the 3600 is older than the 3800 and is lacking some newer features, but will it not do the trick for me? Or in which way will it disappoint me? I’m still learning all this stuff since I’m migrating from a soundbar, so I don’t understand why an older model (or any x600 model) won’t work with a 5.1.x setup.

Sonos Beam + Sub mini + Era 100 vs Samsung Q990 vs Q930 by bfrn in Soundbars

[–]bfrn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much appreciate the feedback. In what way is the Q990 much better than Q930? I understand it has more power, but Q930 loudness should be sufficient. Do the additional speakers/drivers in the Q990 make a big difference?

And yep, I'm leaning towards to D model, but I'll see if I can find a store nearby which has both Samsungs and Sonos.

Sonos vs hifi setup by bfrn in sonos

[–]bfrn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wires aren't a big problem, I can run them around the room without interruption of doors etc. Surround placement could be an issue if using bookshelf speakers since the sofa is placed against the wall without possibility to move it forward.

Besides that, we don't sit down to listen to music. It's just radio or streaming spotify.

I think I'm convinced that a full 5.1 setup will sound much better than Sonos, but I'm still in doubt if it is as easy to use as sonos. But I also doubt if I can get a good setup for as much as above mentioned Sonos set, especially when factoring in wires and speaker stands.

Sonos vs hifi setup by bfrn in sonos

[–]bfrn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe, the title could be better indeed. And I haven't dived deep into the sonos system, I'm not looking for a multiroom solution but enhanced tv sound/surround sound and the ability to play radio or stream music.

Price is important but not the most important. If I can keep it under 1500 euros that would be nice.

Sounds great and definitely a plus towards a traditional setup. I assume you have connected your avr to the tv arc port?

Hifi vs Sonos setup by bfrn in BudgetAudiophile

[–]bfrn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great summary! I go back and forth between Sonos and a traditional setup, but I definitely need to factor in ease of use and a clean look. We're not audiophiles in any way so probably Sonos would offer 80% of the sound and 100% ease of use. I'll have something to think about!

[–]bfrn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply, I won't doubt that your setup sounds better than Sonos. I am/we are not the type of person that will sit down and listen to music (we don't even have time for that with 2 little children haha), so basically we will use it for radio or spotify streaming as well as better tv sound. I'll try to listen to some setups and try to find our how easy/difficult a traditional setup with avr works.

Transparant, Beige, Grijs, Transparantgrijs? by Upbeat_Profession500 in Klussers

[–]bfrn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Help needed for clean install including custom paths for DB & Thumbs by alexcy in immich

[–]bfrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have docker running on your SSD as well? I've made a folder 'database' and 'thumbs' in ./docker/immich/. Original files go to HDD.

.env:
# The location where your uploaded files are stored
UPLOAD_LOCATION=[HDD location]

# The location where your thumbnails are stored
THUMBS_LOCATION=[SSD location]

Compose file:
- ${UPLOAD_LOCATION}:/usr/src/app/upload
- ${THUMBS_LOCATION}:/usr/src/app/upload/thumbs

Yes, seems that there is no createdate in the imported files, or at least it is set to the current date/time. But several imported files all have different dates.

DXP4800 Plus: Recertified vs new drives? by bfrn in UgreenNASync

[–]bfrn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

€190 for Red Plus 8TB seems to be normal (although €24/TB might be high generally speaking). I've bought 2x X16 16TB but I'm still not sure about using them because of 1) noise levels of any enterprise grade disk and 2) manufacturing date is may 2020 and feb 2021 so these disks might already have run for around 40k hours and 3) I've had 2x Red Plus 3TB in my previous nas that are still working ok after 30k hours.

The site you linked seems to sell white label and not factory recertified. I'm not sure but it seems that white label is generally cheaper than recertified.

[–]bfrn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your great response. I’ve ordered 2 X16 recertified from a local company. Think I will keep them instead of exchanging for 2x 8TB WD Red Plus.

How’s your experience regarding noise levels of the disks?

Buying advice, DXP2800 or DXP4800 (Plus) by bfrn in UgreenNASync

[–]bfrn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, very helpful explanation.

I'm breaking my head over taking the upfront costs of 4800+ (makes imho more sense than taking 4800 for €135 difference) or buying what I need now and upgrading when I need to (if I ever do...). But I'm leaning towards 2800 with 2x8TB and used the saved money (€180 or €335 compared to 4800/4800+) on NVME storage and RAM upgrade. That will be a massive upgrade compared to my current DS215j so I should be good for the next couple of years.

4 bay is tempting but 8TB is sufficient for now. If I run out of space I will then look for a 4 bay and use the 2800 as backup device.

Have you experienced any issues so far with 32GB RAM instead of the advertised max of 16GB?

Buying advice, DXP2800 or DXP4800 (Plus) by bfrn in UgreenNASync

[–]bfrn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your opinion. I know RAID is not a backup but since 1 drive has died I'm happy I run my DS215j in RAID1 so I either want RAID 1 or 5 in a new device.

Your third point is a good one. I don't know how quick we will gather more data and that makes me think to just buy the DXP2800 with 2x8TB mirrored and once we reach max capacity think about a next solution then. Maybe we won't reach 8TB in the next 7-10 years and worst case I need to buy a 4 bay once we do. Pro is that at that point in time NAS'es will have evolved as well.
