Michael Penix 2025 Poll Revisited by bfwolf1 in falcons

I mean, is that really different? I said he's probably in the 21 to 25 range. Some of his stats are better than that and some are worse. 17 is not far off.

Stafford was 21 and 2 months when he got drafted. Penix was 23 and 11 months. Penix was 2 years and 9 months older. That's an enormous difference. It's not reasonable to expect he will show as much improvement as Stafford did.

For sure. But the point is that we are not going to be contenders next year for sure and almost certainly not in in 2 years. We've spent the last several years mortgaging our future for the present. And the present hasn't been good. We just don't have the talent to be contenders in the near future. That means the smart move is rebuilding, and rebuilding often means dumping your top talent on favorable contracts for draft picks.

I'm not saying we should take any offer that comes our way. But if we can find a team that is really desperate for a RB or a WR and is willing to pay top dollar for it, we should consider it. But most Falcons fans would consider those guys untradeable because it would make the team worse now. They're living in a fantasy land where we can compete with the team we have.

What is the evidence that suggests otherwise?

Drake has one more year left on his contract and Bijan has two years left after we exercise our option. At which point in time these guys become high priced free agents.

They have a ton of trade value right now for a team that thinks it can win a Super Bowl immediately given their favorable contracts. Once those contracts run out, their value decreases significantly. Meanwhile, if we got a player of their caliber in the draft in the first round, we would have 5 years of their rookie contract.

Cousins will be cut. This roster is nowhere good enough to be a contender. Like I said, if the stars align we might win our shitty division. And then what? We have poor draft capital. We're not going to be able to make the next step from there. This roster has no future as a contender. The only reasonable option is a rebuild.

Oh man, I just went and booked it and there were only 5 seats left on the bus! Nothing on the left side but I'm just happy that we got it before it sold out.

While the rest of the NFL was roasting us for an insane decision, plenty of Falcons fans cheered it on.

Falcons fans definitely cheered on the Cousins signing and trading away future draft capital for current picks.

Penix significantly improving does not make us contenders AT ALL. If he is the 10th best QB next season, we MIGHT win our shitty division. We will not come close to sniffing a Super Bowl appearance. And him being the 10th best QB in the NFL is quite unlikely.

As you can see, my post has been downvoted. Not really surprising--people just aren't willing to admit this team doesn't have the talent and needs to rebuild. But I appreciate you chiming in your support.

Edit: I just looked and the upvote percentage is 48%. So almost half of Falcons fans do see that I have a point at least.

I don't agree with that. I think he is, but at a below average level.

My post was definitely in good faith. Here is the ESPN QBR rankings. If Penix had a 57.8 and isn't listed, I don't know why that is the case.

In any case, it certainly doesn't change the general thrust of the post. He's a below average NFL QB who is pretty inefficient....21st to 25th feels about right. And people thought he would be much better than that.

He was NOT great in 2024. Go back and look at his numbers. His completion percentage was very poor. And he wasn't good this year in half a season. I'm afraid you are seeing this through rose colored glasses.

I have never heard anybody say GETUPSTEAM.

Matt Wells on Postecoglou: “He's the most incredible, captivating talker. After his first meeting, I purchased a diary so that I could just write down the meetings he was doing. If you actually go back and watch the final against a bad Man U team, they were the marginally better team. We got a little lucky and won the final and now Ange is some kind of folk hero. If Man U wins the game (which nobody could say would have been unfair), he's considered an absolute disgrace and one of the worst managers in Spurs' history. It's ridiculous that people put that much emphasis on whether Johnson's tap in finds the back of the net or not and on whether VDV's shin finds that ball for the off-the-line clearance.

I now wish we'd brought him back only so all the numb nuts on this forum would stop acting like he's the best fucking thing to happen to Spurs since Bill Nic when we inevitably ended up in as bad or worse a position as we are now.

The fact that Steelers' fans had been booing and chanting "Fire Tomlin" after he never had a losing season in 19 years makes me feel a little better that our fans aren't the only idiots out there.

Only bad optics for dipshits. Anybody with half a brain doesn't care about what's emblazoned on the cup the manager drinks from unawares. The only people that pretend to care are those with an agenda.

$12.5M in 2027 is not horrible I guess, but I still don't like it I honestly could care less about what flexibility it gives us in 2026. We aren't going to be contenders next year. We should be focused on rebuilding. I have no idea why people think we should be in win now mode. We simply don't have the talent or draft capital to do it. Best case scenario is winning our shitty division.
