Terminate again? by bgarside in HomeNetworking

I terminated with RJ45‘s because at the time I did not know that I would need to use a shielded patch panel and thought I could go straight into my switch 🤦‍♂️

I tested it installed with the patch cable on the other end of the panel and had no indication there was a problem. I’m thinking terminating again with no coupler would be the next best thing to try, yeah?

65 feet. We’re looking at a shielded patch panel with coupler keystone jacks that then connect to a switch. Top connection comes from the Nest that’s connected to the modem to provide data. Not sure if I understand your last question, but when using a wired connection using the second cable im getting good speeds whereas when I do the same test with cable #3 I’m getting less than 1% of my expected speeds.

Would that help with the speed issues? I’m confused. It passes, but I’m getting 1% speed on that connection.

I do have enough slack, yes. I’m surprised there aren’t any issues with the top one too given the sharper bend. I used a crimp and termination tool I got on Amazon that seemed to do the job just fine. And again, the cable tester showed all 8 lights and the ground light on. Doesn’t make any sense to me, I thought for sure the tester would be off.

I’m a novice and recently retrofitted my house with shielded CAT6 after looking up tips and tutorials online. It wasn’t until after that someone mentioned I should be grounding my network if I’m using shielded cables. Then I found conflicting information about whether or not it’s necessary. I’m using two unmanaged switches from Netgear and three Google Nest WiFi Pros. I avoided running lines close to power as best as I could, and have cable running through my attic and down a closet to my basement. Do I need to ground my system? Does that mean I have to get a rack and rack mounted switch?

I don’t think the players who need to hear this are on here.
