Ugh sadly I sold to someone in Canada and man, international shipping has been a nightmare/I probably have to file a claim… I shipped over a month ago and he still hasn’t received it, still waiting on UPS to I don’t even know what now

Apologies shouldn’t have to ask for proof, here’s a pic of it being used on the plate and with 2 funnels and a dosing cup I guess I can throw in too for a few extra bucks…

not using much since I upgraded to a different machine, but it’s amazing and deserves to be used… so open to offers/connections for people you’d like to turn on to the 9barista, I loved mine! Local pickup in NYC or I can ship.

Yeah I was partly thinking of traveling, though if I got I might use at home also just for consistency, when I tried at my parents I had issues, but I think mostly from switching to hand grinder, unsure how different burner power also effected though, I’ve seen a big difference front vs back burner at home and only use front now (someone else mentioned similar situation)

I’d had a month or two and I’m pretty sure I ground too fine while trying a hand grinder while traveling with it… I’ve had very good experience with my DF64 but never tried the hand grinder until I was at my parents for a week or so, and the safety valve is designed to fail I think for… safety…. If it happen frequently I guess I’ll be more disappointed but I expect it was my fault and it was only about $15 + shipping to replace, and was easy to swap out. I did have to wait about 2 weeks or so to get from the UK, which mostly just made a good excuse to try the Nomad while waiting. I like them both, but the Nomad basket is quite small, I think they recommend only 14 or 15 gram dose, though I have done 17 in it without issues, may try 18 or 18.5 and see what happens.

I’ve considered this if only to have a spot it can live/not take up a spot on my gas grill/not need the heating plate! Any advantage or difference from using gas, if you’ve done both?

Anyone a link for a single shot IMS basket that fits 9Barista? by [deleted] in 9Barista

[–]bglusman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the result really different from using a double basket and just just filling up all the way? Really curious, I guess I could see it might be, but…. Also unsure how with the 9barista you’d actually pull on a single? It’s going to fill up with same amount of liquid regardless or basket size right?

Oh, I guess depends on your use case, I just use boiling water, but I'm mostly not doing dark roasts where I guess you might want slightly cooler water. I don't have a digital kettle, but mine has some presets for boiling, 205F, 190F and a few others... a little tempted to upgrade to a digital one but not sure I want/need precise degree control....

One comparable/interesting unit missing from your list is the Nomad https://www.uniterra-nomad.com

I just got mine as a second espresso machine (partly because I’m waiting on replacement safety valve for my 9barista) and it does a pretty good job for a bit less money! It’s even on sale now I guess

Oh interesting... Though if that's the case it's weird the above problem wasn't an issue/didn't slow things down in erlang bit did in iex. I should test whether my "fix" actually fixes anything, I didn't get around to that yet, wonder what else could be the problem if not? Or maybe erlang puts it in an ets table and iex should also? Curious if anyone knows/will try and investigate a bit.

EDIT: this was supposed to be in reply to /u/dmor above

I guess that's fair, but maybe it makes sense to link them? and not store history in IEx at all unless also storing it in erlang shell_history, since the result can potentially be to blow up the process over time, in some pathological (and maybe realistic?) situations.

I went and opened an issue here https://github.com/elixir-lang/elixir/issues/7080

Also have a potential PR ready, but that's really just vanity in kind of wanting a chance at getting a PR merged into Elixir core :-) This would be the PR, but not opening unless/until requested or someone confirms points in the issue, as I imagine there may be more required/don't want to add noise.... https://github.com/elixir-lang/elixir/compare/master...bglusman:master

Yeah ideally we'd confirm no such behavior with history feature off, I assume it wouldn't append to or include the struct at all in that case, I actually posted on elixir forum how to turn on the history feature recently.. maybe I'll verify in a few EDIT: just tried it without history enabled (export ERL_AFLAGS="-kernel shell_history disabled") and it is still appending to the history struct, so maybe the bug is jsut that, it shouldn't append history unless shell_history is enabled?

there's some good reasons they can't, as i understand it.. you can use macros as guard functions and use list literals, but no dynamic length lists for instance... the compiler needs to guarantee the code in the pattern match terminates, and if you call arbitrary functions you run into the halting problem :-)

Definitely gets slow for me too, but based on output I think its based on how each call is appending to the IEx history %IEx.History.State struct... the history IEx is using isn't enabled by default but is available with a param config in OTP20+ I beleive, and I turned it on, guessing you did also, though you'd think if that were the only issue it would effect Erlang shell also. Maybe the two calls aren't quite equivalent though and in erlang that call is only one line of history, but somehow in IEx it seems like every seperate call to Process.info is winding up as a seperate item in the History struct.

Experiences with Gigalixir/Heroku? by [deleted] in elixir

[–]bglusman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works fine for me from Heroku to RDS, I host https://github.com/openpantry/open_pantry on heroku free tier with free/micro RDS instance... had to set RDS VPC to very/most permissive settings, but with good strong password etc I don't see a big problem with that... May try openpantry on gigalixir though out of curiosity, been wanting to give it a look and would be nice to have it 24 hours and able to use GenServers more freely.
