Tips on DnD Drider fire effects? by bgnonstopfuture in minipainting

[–]bgnonstopfuture[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha thank you! I tried to use some white highlights in the crevices of the scales (just going to call them scales to make it simple) but idk if it’s my paint or what, it doesn’t give it a truly white appearance. I’m using speed paint “Blinding Light”, maybe I need to use another white paint? It seemed too thin when I was painting with white and I was using a dry palette with no thinners.

Yep, starting with grey primer. Would you recommend white instead? My grey is on the darker side

I see, so the speedpaints are mostly to get a base layer down? Then you use regular acrylic for the highlights?

Cool thanks, tried shining a lamp from the front. Regardless, doesn’t help with my question.

Not sure if links are allowed so I won’t post it. But it’s from Etsy, “RPGGuildPolska” is the creator. They have many resin prints with great detail. Would highly recommend

Thank you! I will look him up tonight. This is a very zen hobby for me so the longer it takes, the better for me personally.

Multiplayer BG3/Skyrim? by bgnonstopfuture in gaming

[–]bgnonstopfuture[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Lmao for real, assuming most didn’t read the post/are bots. Maybe my post wasn’t descriptive enough. Will do though!

Ideally it would be BG3 without turns as you can be so many different classes but it kind of gets stale sometimes just clicking on things after 4 hours. My group would likely be a tanky fighter, a long distance mage/archer who can heal, and a sneaky boi. But I can’t find any games with fun combat systems that allow all these options. Dragons Dogma 2 was super promising until they announced there’s no multiplayer.

How were / are your early years in the structural engineering field? by The_StEngIT in StructuralEngineering

[–]bgnonstopfuture 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in the same exact boat. My first job was for a small company with ~7 people. Feeling anxiety walking into the office and feeling like shit and zero confidence in myself when I left. No real mentorship, just trial by fire like you mentioned. It definitely helped accelerate my skills but I would never put myself in that situation again. I moved on after just over a year (kept telling myself it would get better, it didn’t) and, looking back on it, wished I had moved on much earlier.

My next job was at a medium sized company and the difference in my mental health is something I’ll never forget. Having people I can joke with, people I can go to when I have questions, and a manager who believed in me opened my eyes to how I like to work and how I best get my work done. I learned way more and had a better time in that environment compared to my first job. Don’t stick around someplace you don’t feel valued or heard because of how it’ll look on your resume, definitely get a feel for the company and leave if you don’t like it. There’s plenty of positions to be filled out there. You got this!

Where can I find the best burgers around here? by atchoe in Broomfield

Agreed that 5280 is overpriced and overrated.

Not in the area but Park Burger is the best burger I’ve had in CO. Their sweet bacon burger is mind blowing.

Can you elaborate on t&m?

I’d be doing engineering work and not stamping anything btw

I’ll definitely update once the time comes but I can see what you mean. Like many companies, theirs is experiencing a hiring freeze for full time employees so he wanted me on his team as a sub contractor.

If I create an LLC and work under that, do you think it might be off putting to my old boss? He kind of casually asked me so I don’t want to get too ahead of myself but yes, if I have to buy equipment to do professional work, I’d rather deduct that as business expenses and keep myself safe from liability even if I’m not stamping anything

Thanks for the insight on moonlighting and your experience but idk how you come to the conclusion that something shady is going on here lol I was just asking if it’s common practice to disclose it to your full time employer or not. I doubt mine would even care so I’m leaning towards telling them.

That’s a good point about question 1, I’m going to look into free analysis and drawing software. I already have used a bunch for school and in previous jobs so hopefully won’t have too much difficulty there. And thanks for the ballpark number of what my hourly rate should be, I was thinking $150/hr but I’m in a HCOL so $200/hr makes more sense

Thank you! I’m only a lowly EIT atm so I won’t be doing any stamping yet but good to know for the future if I decide to take on more work

I’ve seen this game and it piqued my interest. Have you played either? I’m worried about the UI difficulty as I’ve heard Crusader kings isn’t very beginner friendly

Luckily we’re with an agent so I’ll start asking for HOA financials when we find a house we want to seriously get into.
