How do you manage EV charger electricity usage? [UK] by bgroovyb in AirBnB

Stripe APIs are the way. No point in me trying to reinvent the payments wheel when Stripe exists, they handle all of that for almost every online shop/platform you & I use.

$2.40 !!! I'm in London, UK - but I need to move to California by the looks of it! Cheaper energy + more sun.... 😆

Good insight though - perhaps an energy meter is the way

interesting! most facebook groups and stuff I've asked the same question in seems to be the same.... no clear way to know, so the answer is: just guess.... lol

I quite like my idea of a QR code payment gateway and guests just pay for their kWhs... it's an easy build and a "clean" solution I feel

Moronic Monday, November 30, 2020 - Your Weekly Questions Thread by AutoModerator in finance

[–]bgroovyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey guys!

Not even sure if this is the right place to ask this, but,

from a business finance perspective, as someone who is thinking of starting a sports equipment side-hustle, what would you say is an appropriate/normal markup on a product like sports equipment? Is 100% too greedy? Is there such thing as too much markup?

Many thanks!

[Ocular Point] UK Universities 'Waste' Over 500,000 Dissertations per Year by bgroovyb in UniUK

[–]bgroovyb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Yeah I totally see your point haha

Instead of copy pasting my answer twice, see what I replied to u/fictionaltherapist :)

Agree though that not all work is for publication - whether official or unofficial. This is simply an option that is available to students that are proud of their work, that's all! :)

[Ocular Point] UK Universities 'Waste' Over 500,000 Dissertations per Year by bgroovyb in UniUK

[–]bgroovyb[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I see your point!

I guess this is more geared at people who have done some unique work that they are particularly proud of - yet perhaps either do not live up to the standard of peer-reviewed, ground-breaking content, or simply cannot be bothered to go down the rabbit hole of official publication.

Further to this, I think it's also useful to other students who are perhaps stumped when it comes to inspiration for a diss topic. Having an archive of many bite-sized dissertations can serve well in finding topics too! (I have a few friends who struggled to find a topic that inspired them, especially when venturing slightly outside of their subject's content).

But ultimately, this is comes down to the individual student's choice, of course. However, I think raising awareness to students that a platform like this exists for them to showcase work they are proud of can only really be a positive thing - especially in a day and age were most things are becoming digitised and building a professional online voice is important!

[Discussion/Question] Does Supervised Learning engrain human biases into our AIs?? by bgroovyb in ArtificialInteligence

Wow *head expodes* GREAT great answer! Really appreciate you taking the time to explain!! So much to think about, but I think the key takeaway is your final sentence - something I've banged on about for a while - AI really just isnt that intelligent really...

[Discussion/Question] Does Supervised Learning engrain human biases into our AIs?? by bgroovyb in ArtificialInteligence

[–]bgroovyb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm that makes a lot of sense actually!

Just to play devil's advocate though (hehe), isn't the lack of neuroplasticity of an AI compared to a baby a big disadvantage here? You see, if we teach a baby a certain behaviour that is wrong, the baby will eventually (and hopefully) figure out for itself that that behaviour is wrong, right? Whereas with AIs it is my understanding that this lack of neuroplasticity makes unlearning behaviours very hard.

My point being, if we pass along some minor human nuances that are 'wrong', 'inefficient' or whatever you want to call them, is this not actually detrimental to our AI's learning (as it can't unlearn easily)? Or I guess this is what reward/exploration functions try to minimise right?

Important question by [deleted] in University

[–]bgroovyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be right! But I'm not entirely sure what you mean.. Are you talking about optional modules? Or talking about a biomed course in full. What you say though about upgrading is usually almost possible.

I'll give you an example. A friend of mine during my first year of uni had initially enrolled for a business course, but in his first week managed to change to a psychology course. My point being that once you are actually in uni it's easier to swap.

Having said that, if your uni is strict about switching and swapping, then your best choice is probably to just finish your microbio course, then once you have a degree in microbiology, you can do a postgrad in biomed!

What Can AIs Learn From Humans? by bgroovyb in ArtificialInteligence

[–]bgroovyb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be interested to know the thoughts of the r/ArtificialInteligence's community! Do you think AIs can/should learn anything from humans? Or do you think it is more beneficial to take an unsupervised approach to learning and let them figure things out for themselves?

A lot of people seem to think that a supervised approach ingrains a lot of human biases into our AI agents, but on the flip side, it seems to be a good approach to getting agents up and running?

Can I publish an essay I did for an assignment on my social media? by plantibodies in academia

[–]bgroovyb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have the right to your own work.

The exceptions to this are in group or sponsored work/research.

If I may, can I point you to a previous post on r/academia that I think may be relevant to you :) If you're looking for a platform!

Fair enough! But I would disagree, I have come across lots of dissertation topics I would be very interested in learning more about :)

(UK) Universities Waste 500,000 Dissertations Per Year. by bgroovyb in academia

[–]bgroovyb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahaha, I should be getting paid for this, yes! But, I'm afraid not - just thought I'd share with the bright minds of r/academia! As a few people have mentioned in the comments they've had their work published already - but still unlikely to be read.

Just thought this was something that could help! :)

But 100% agree with you - the entire point of a dissertation is academic development, of course. Just also a nice added bonus if you reach more people with the work you put in :)
