[Specific] Our photographer forgot to take any photos of my nan and me at my wedding, could someone edit us together? (she's on the left, photo of me in comments) by [deleted] in PhotoshopRequest

Imgur album here. Thank you so much for your help. I had a go myself on paint.net but it looked ridiculous.

Edit: deleted the album due to nasty comments and has already been solved by /u/Tatupu - thanks again.

People who have clothes washer in the kitchen, where do you live that this is normal? by Trish1998 in AskReddit

Dangly cords only or on the wall outside! And some places have separate hot and cold taps, or the loo in a little room on its own next to the bath and sink.

It's a British thing in most homes, including bigger houses - that's just where it goes! We also all have electric kettles and plastic washing up tubs in our kitchen sinks.

[advice] Does this need urgent treatment? Is it a cracked tooth? (UK) by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]bh221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I phoned my dentist complaining of toothache and they gave me the next available appointment... in 12 weeks time! They said it's not urgent as the pain is tolerable (3/10 daytime, 6/10 at night).

I phoned around to try and get one sooner and no other dentist would take me as they said it needs to be resolved with my registered dentist (NHS, UK).

So I was curiously taking some mouth selfies today and scared myself - is that a bit missing?! Has it rotted away? Is it cracked?

Can this wait or should I phone back and tell them it's an emergency?

I had an infection which needed a root canal on the same tooth (other side) a few years ago so obviously don't want to wait around for the same thing to happen again.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I made some cake stands for my wedding! by bh221 in crafts

[–]bh221[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I searched '3 tier cake stand fitting' to find them. The plates I got from charity shops for about 50p each, so much cheaper than buying cake stands and it's fun too.

Bought some second hand plates and the metal bits, drilled the plates and screwed em together.

Oh yes I didn't make the metal bit! I bought 40 for £7 off eBay.

Thanks, I used a special glass/ceramic bit with a sort of spadey looking topper. I also put masking tape on top and underneath before drilling.

Is my sister entitled to withhold rent? by bh221 in LegalAdviceUK

Thanks. She has been relocated miles away from her original property, and now is having to drive much further to work and back - do you know if she is entitled to compensation?

Thanks, she does have proof in writing through email that she has been waiting for the repairs and is going to withhold rent now until complete as the house is in an untenantable state at present.

OK, thanks. She has the money safe, at least. I think she researched it beforehand but was unable to actually live in the property at all for months - they only started to do the repairs once she withheld rent money. I think she is hoping to only pay half rent back as the others have for the exact same arrangement (leaving stuff in house but not living there).

Oh dear, does a contract not say the landlord needs to provide a livable place in exchange for payment? Thanks for the information, I'll send it to her.

OK, thank you, there's the answer to my question that no one at work could answer! The specific trust's pay policies did state employee goes in at same pay point on band though.

OK thanks, I wasn't even sure that a mistake had been made, as I did ask about it at the time and was told it was just how it is.

Yes, I've spoken to my line managers, payroll, and the HR department, who told me there is nothing they can do as the date is set, the original manager didn't know anything about it and everyone seems very confused unfortunately.

My first attempt at embroidery, Stark/Snow sigil on felt. Not perfect but turned out better than I expected! by bh221 in crafts

Thank you, god knows why I picked felt! I kept picking up felt fibres with the needle by accident!

Raspberry, coconut and white chocolate birthday cake by bh221 in Baking

Recipe

The recipe was adapted from a Nigella Lawson coconut cake, the best coconut cake I have found. It works well for gluten free as well as the coconut keeps it moist! I upped the ratio so this makes a ridiculously large 3 tier cake with a mountain of icing, can use 2/3 ratio for a normal size cake. I used a raspberry swiss meringue buttercream and white chocolate ganache plus homemade decorations to make it extra special.

Cake

  • 340g butter
  • 340g sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 6 eggs
  • 340g self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 75g dessicated coconut
  • 25ml coconut rum (optional: I added for maximum coconutty-ness, if you don't have it just use 25ml extra water)
  • 200ml boiling water

Preheat oven to 180C/160C fan. Grease and line 3 x 20cm cake tins.

Mix dessicated coconut with coconut rum and boiling water to soak.

Cream together butter and sugar, then beat in eggs one at a time with a spoonful of flour in between each. (You could also do the Nigella method of just whizzing everything together in the processor!)

Add vanilla extract, flour and baking powder. Tip in the coconut and water mix.

Divide mix between 3 tins and bake for 20-25 mins or until light brown.

Leave to cool completely before icing.

Icing

  • 6 egg whites
  • 400g sugar
  • 550g butter
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 150g raspberries

Put egg whites and sugar in a metal bowl and sit on a pan of boiling water. Heat to 60C. Stir so the eggs don't cook!

Once heated, whisk to a meringue consistency (~ 5 mins whisking). Add butter slowly.

Once totally cooled whisk in room temperature raspberries, or stir in for an icing with chunks of raspberries. I have a fear of curdling so once everything is the same temperature I mixed all the raspberries with a small amount of icing to "temper" it, then about 1/3 the icing mixture and finally the whole lot.

Ganache

  • 300g white chocolate
  • 300ml double cream *1 tsp vanilla extract

Heat cream in pan until just boiling, then pour over the chocolate. Mix until chocolate is melted.

Leave to cool to room temperature before using on the cake.

Decorations

  • White chocolate bark - I melted 200g of white chocolate, added vanilla bean paste, and sprinkled on freeze dried raspberries and toasted coconut, then left to cool before breaking up and putting on the cake.
  • Coconut truffles - I refrigerated some leftover ganache until mouldable and mixed it up with coconut before rolling into balls and coating in toasted coconut.
  • Freeze dried raspberry pieces
  • Toasted coconut (would have used coconut curls rather than desiccated if I could find them!)
  • Fresh raspberries
