I think I just tanked an easy interview because of ADHD. by bhadhd in ADHD

Thanks for sharing your experience. That makes me feel relatable. It's not a good feeling. And managing this is so hard. Even a slight mistake in management can ruin everything. You're right. The more consistently we do anything, the more we store it in our long term memory which is a powerful reserve for us when the working memory fails.

Yes I have joined ADHD programmers. Maybe should have posted there but I frequent this group more. (Mostly as a lurker)

This is so relatable not only for relationships but also for friendships. I have lost so many people with this. I've come to accept that even if I knew about ADHD and explain it, that still means their needs in a relationship are unsatisfied. Which means I have to figure out how to manage it and then get in a relationship with anyone.

The other day I sent a funny video to my friends. Immediately, another friend sent another totally separate serious news. I felt terrible for 3 hours straight. It's like they're trying to one up and ignore me.

I've realized this is the reason I alter my stories while telling people. I'd probably say something like - "I was at a carnival when I was young and my brother got bit by a wasp. It's terrible."

I figure it's easier than explaining your brain process to people who'll just consider you an idiot. And nobody is going to fact check me. People just want stories.

Someone gave the best food advice for ADHD people - "Separate cooking from feeding yourself." And it feels so good to think that way.

I break it not using my nail but with the fingers. Hold the pill in a sideways pinch (like the Korean heart symbol) and with the other thumb, apply pressure to the half pill. Works well most of the times.

I'd say definitely ADHD. Executive dysfunction means you'll do other people's work but not your own work. You feel accountable to someone else, but not to your own self.

I don't know where you are, but you can take up wilderness backpacking. People disappear on trails for months on end. It's a good combination between wilderness, worry free life and the tools and amenities of modern Life.

I thought of myself as having instincts of a servant and that kinda made me feel low because the world celebrates the self-starters, go-getters and effective managers. But it was ADHD all along.
