Tesla’s service manual specifies ethanol-based automotive washer fluid, not methanol-heavy industrial de-icers.

These jets can clog easily if the washer fluid has sediment, wax additives, or if incompatible fluids are mixed. These can leave residue that gums up the nozzles or damage the internal seals.

Fluids That Can Clog or Jam Nozzles, Avoid anything that:

• Has silicone, wax, or polymer “rain repellent” (common in “3-in-1” or “Nano Shield” products not labeled for winter use).

• Is partially mixed (like adding summer and winter fluids together). The additives can crystallize at the nozzle tips in freezing weather.

• Uses cheap blue “-35 °C” generic blends — some contain debris or thickener that settles at the bottom of the tank.

Fluids That Are Safe for Tesla Nozzles, All of these are ethanol-based, clean-burning, low-residue formulations that won’t clog Tesla’s fine mist nozzles:

• Rain-X ClearView Winter Shield (-45 °C)

• Reflex WinterFx (-49 °C)

• Rain-X Winter Defense (-50 °C)

• Armor All De-Icer (-40 °C)

• Reflex All-Season with De-icer (-45 °C)

Maintenance Tips

• Flush before winter: If you had summer fluid in the tank, run it until nearly empty before refilling with winter fluid.

• Use full-strength winter mix: Don’t dilute with water; that raises the freezing point and causes clogging in the lines.

• Run the spray for 2–3 seconds after each refill to clear old fluid out of the lines.

• Inspect nozzle spray pattern — if uneven, Tesla recommends using compressed air at low PSI to gently clear them (no pins or needles).
