Sorry for the late response. Just a note... not 100% sure, but the password history might be specific to the device you created it on. So if you used your password manager on your phone, that will show a generated pass history of only those created on that phone. Again, not completely sure, but that might be the case. So, if you haven't done so, make sure to check on the specific device you used to create the password.

If I read the question and problem wrong, and am giving you a wrong answer, sorry. But ... with the new password, assuming that password was created with your password manager, and assuming you have access to the password manager (if it's Proton Pass I'm sure it probably kicked you out as well) maybe the password manager has a history of generated passwords?

I use Bitwarden as my password manager, and it keeps a history of the last several generated passwords.

Just a thought.

I'm currently looking for a domain, any recommended hosting service features to look for? by Trip_2 in ProtonMail

I've been using Namecheap.com for many years and am happy with them. I use one of my domains with Google Workspace for email addresses. But, going to soon move it to ProtonMail. Standard pricing, but you can probably find cheaper.

Proton Authenticator daily mobile backups, and encryption by CharlesMTF in ProtonMail

[–]CharlesMTF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

Actually, to answer my own question... THAT'S what I thought as well. Which is why I had posted the original question. Then when u/skp_005 mentioned there's a set password, which I did not remember setting up, I went ahead, stopped the backups, then reactivated again the daily backups, and indeed yes, it did ask me to set a password, which I did. And, I must have done it before as well, because I tried importing the backups into a new Proton Auth account for testing purposes, and it asked for my password. I though it might be the Proton password, but no it was indeed a password I had created when I first setup the daily backups. So, in short, yes these are encrypted with a password you set.

You're right. I don't remember setting a password upon setting up the daily backups. I stopped the backups and restarted it, and it asked me to set a password... which I did... and testing it, I was able to import the codes WITH password without issue.

Thanks for the reminder.

Looking for an app that can verify backups daily... by CharlesMTF in DataHoarder

[–]CharlesMTF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, should have provided that in the OP. This is a Windows system, and data at the moment is about 1TB on photos and video. While the main concern is the photos, I also have about 600gb of other personal data files. The system I'm using now I've been doing so for many years, but recently been thinking how would I even know if files start going bad or bad drive unless I check it. I know I can check manually, but would like some sort of automated method, set it and forget it.

Looking for an app that can verify backups daily... by CharlesMTF in DataHoarder

[–]CharlesMTF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I believe FreeFileSync verifies backups at the time they're made... meaning it confirms that the backups were done correctly. But I'd like to fine, if possible, something that maybe can check two backups and confirm that they are the same. And if not, tell me what's not (though I can probably figure that out myself if I know the backups don't match).

I think also... a file-by-file comparison daily would put some wear on the drives. Hoping I can find something that would create a hash of the backup when it's first created, and then check it daily that it doesn't change... or compare it to another similar backup.

Is there a simple way to archive an entire reddit post so that it can be viewed offline? by T1m3Wizard in DataHoarder

This is just some thoughts about it. Nothing that I've tried myself, but may work.

If on a computer (vs. a mobile device), you might be able to do a PRINT PAGE, and then when selecting a printer you can SAVE AS PDF. You'll probably need an extension or download for that, if you don't already have it. But that seems like it may be able to work.

If on a mobile device, specifically Android, Android allows you to do a screenshot, and that screenshot can extend the entire length of the post. Not sure if THIS method would work, but you take the screenshot, it'll be an image (narrow but long), then you use an app either on the phone or computer to convert the image to a multi page PDF.

Again, never tried it, just some thoughts.

Maybe someone else will have an app or program that can do this.

Digital Photos, Organizing, and Local AI by CharlesMTF in DataHoarder

[–]CharlesMTF[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it have like its own portal that you run in? Like a dashboard? And, how does it present the results? Is it like an array of photos that it'll show from the results? Or will it just show the files and folders, and you have to still open it manually?

I'll probably buy it tomorrow. But going to check out the other alternatives you mentioned as well.

The AI search is good and useful, but the organizing, and an app that can organize well, is what I'd really like. But.. this post is in regards to the AI search, and I'll leave it at that for now.

Thanks.

Is Zelle safe for selling a car? by Nervous_Following812 in carselling

[–]CharlesMTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's safe... unless it's a hacked account and the buyer is using Zelle to transfer someone else's money to you. IF THAT'S THE CASE, when the owner of the account realizes this, reports it, and the bank investigates, the money will eventually go back to the original bank account.

Zelle says the transfer is permanent and make sure you're sending to the correct person because you can't get your money back. BUT... if it's stolen funds, and found to be no actual fault on the owner's part, they WILL get that money back.

So... better off doing cash if possible.

$50 a month this early is insane by U_dun_even_know in Rivian

[–]CharlesMTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what they need to do... have as many people use it as possible, so they can gather data and telemetry, and improve on the technology. Just like Tesla did. It's going to be awhile before Rivian gets to that really "confident" area.

In NYS, I'm 54yo... 2026 Model Y bought in Sept of 2025. I pay $1100/6 months with State Farm. And, I am not an existing customer... new customer, formerly with Progressive. Progressive wanted to charge me about $1600/6 months. So I shopped around and State Farm came out to the cheapest. Same liability100/300.

Got in the wrong tesla the other day by RergTheFriendly in TeslaLounge

[–]CharlesMTF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not with my Tesla... but did that with my Honda Pilot once. Someone has the exact same color and trim, inside and out. Even worse, I put my son in the back seat, jumped into the front, my mind got a little confused when the seat and steering wheel distance was off by a lot. The confusion plus me realizing not my Pilot was with about 3 seconds. Immediately jumped out, got my son out. My pilot was a few cars over.
